Senior Software Engineer (Data Platform)

The Rokt engineering team builds best-in-class ecommerce technology that provides personalized and relevant experiences for customers globally and empowers marketers with sophisticated, AI-driven tooling to understand consumers better. Our bespoke platform handles millions of transactions per day. It considers billions of data points which give engineers the opportunity to build technology at scale, collaborate across teams and gain exposure to a wide range of technology.

Target Total Compensation: $300,000 - $325,000, including a fixed annual salary of $200,000 - $225,000, employee equity grant, and world-class benefits.

Rokt’s Data Platform team plays a pivotal role in building the data backbone that powers our AI-driven ecommerce platform. As a Sr Software Engineer, you’ll architect and scale high-performance systems and data pipelines that serve billions of transactions annually. You'll tackle complex problems in distributed systems and real-time analytics, leveraging AI to accelerate development, enhance reliability, and drive automation.

What You’ll Do

• Design and scale high-impact systems: Build, test, deploy and refactor code that solves complex problems at the core of our ecommerce platform.
• Accelerate innovation with data products: Drive the development of cutting-edge, AI-enhanced data and engineering solutions.
• Own outcomes end-to-end: Manage priorities, deliver high-quality work independently, and maintain system health, including CI/CD and on-call responsibilities.
• Collaborate to amplify impact: Partner across teams to solve business-critical challenges, ensuring your work aligns with broader goals.
• Elevate engineering excellence: Mentor others, uphold best practices, and prioritize user experience, performance, and maintainability in everything you build.

Requirements

We're looking for an engineer who is passionate about data and its potential to transform business.

About You:

• 5+ years of professional experience (or 3+ with an advanced degree) designing and building distributed systems or data platforms at scale.
• Proficient in writing performant, maintainable code in one or more languages such as Java, Python, Scala, or Go.
• Hands-on experience with modern data processing technologies, including distributed query engines (e.g., Spark, Flink), stream processing (e.g., Kafka Streams, Apache Beam), and open table formats (e.g., Iceberg, Delta Lake).
• Solid understanding of SQL, data modeling, and query optimization, along with foundational Linux and scripting skills.
• Strong product and customer mindset—able to translate user needs into scalable, reliable technical solutions.
• Excellent communicator with a collaborative, open approach to working across teams using written and verbal tools.

Bonus

• Experience building data products on medallion architectures or with stateful stream processing.
• Familiarity with AdTech or large-scale analytics environments.
