What's Default?

Default is building the AI operating system for modern go-to-market teams. Our all-in-one platform combines best-in-class lead capture, instant scheduling, enrichment, routing, and automation into a single, powerful product—built from the ground up for speed, flexibility, and AI-native execution.

Backed by Craft Ventures, 8VC, BoxGroup, Menlo Ventures, and founders of companies like Figma, Notion, Airtable, and Ramp, Default is used by startups and mid-market teams who want to move faster, convert more leads, and automate every step from interest to opportunity.

We’re on a mission to help companies grow faster from zero to IPO and beyond.

What are Workflows?

Default Workflows is the orchestration engine at the heart of our platform. Every form submission, meeting booking, enrichment call, routing decision, and GTM trigger flows through our workflow engine. It powers not only automation—but intelligent coordination across Default’s entire product surface.

This is not a background system. Workflows is the product.

We're expanding the team to scale execution throughput from thousands to millions of actions per day, and to introduce powerful new products across the revenue function—all of which rely on Workflows to execute in real time, with context, precision, and speed.

About the Role

We're looking for a high-agency Senior Software Engineer to join the Workflows team and help shape the foundation of Default’s product and platform.

You’ll:

  • Own and ship core features across backend, infra, and UX
  • Build a scalable workflow engine that powers high-volume automations
  • Help define our internal pattern library and developer experience for building and composing new triggers, conditions, and actions
  • Collaborate with product and design on making automation accessible to non-technical GTM users
  • Help evolve Workflows into a truly intelligent layer that adapts, recommends, and learns from GTM behaviors

You're Probably a Fit if You:

  • Have built or scaled a job processing, rules engine, or automation system at meaningful scale
  • Are comfortable owning features end-to-end across the stack
  • Enjoy building intuitive, interactive UX for complex systems (e.g. visual builders, drag-and-drop, real-time editors)
  • Have a strong product sense and like working directly with founders, designers, and PMs
  • Thrive in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
  • Are excited about the future of AI-native software—especially where it intersects with automation and GTM teams

Tech Stack

We don’t believe in resume-driven tech choices—but we use TypeScript, React, Postgres, Redis, and a scalable job queue architecture. You don’t need to be an expert in those, but you should be comfortable with modern systems architecture and fast-moving codebases. Strong opinions encouraged.

Compensation & Benefits

$175,000–$225,000 base + competitive equity

In-person, NYC HQ (Flatiron)

Benefits include:

  • Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance
  • Flexible PTO
  • Wellness stipend
  • Relocation support to NYC

Why Default?

  • You’ll join a small, elite team shipping fast on a massive product surface area
  • You’ll work on problems that sit at the intersection of engineering, product design, AI, and user behavior
  • Building at Default means building the growth blueprint for the next generation of fast-growing companies
  • You’ll do all of the above with teammates who are as obsessed with quality and speed as you are
