Who We Are

We're on a mission to revolutionize retirement for millions of Americans.

Retirable is a mission-driven, venture backed fintech that helps everyday Americans retire with financial confidence through professional retirement advice, wealth management, and banking. We're the bridge between where Americans are today and the confident, well-funded retirement that they deserve.

The problem is staggering

12,000 Americans retire each day and less than a quarter have ever seen a financial planning professional. That's millions of hardworking Americans heading toward retirement underfunded, underprepared, and unnecessarily stressed.

For too long, professional retirement planning has been exclusive to the wealthy. Meanwhile, everyday
Americans have been left to navigate one of life's most critical transitions alone.

We're changing that

At Retirable, we're tearing down traditional barriers to world-class retirement advice. We don't sell products, we build relationships. We don't push portfolios, we craft personalized roadmaps to financial freedom.

This isn't just fintech. This is about fundamentally reshaping how America retires; one person, one plan, one confident future at a time.

Senior Software Engineer

We are looking for a product-driven Senior Software Engineer to join our team and build best-in-class products that transform the way mass-market Americans plan for, and live out, their retirement. We’re a small team that maintains a wide ranging product, meaning you’ll be able to own meaningful parts of our domain that our users rely on for their financial lives in retirement.

Your growth mindset, comfort with ambiguity, and attention to detail will enable us to ship the highest quality products in a fast-paced environment. As a senior member of the team, you’ll be foundational in cultivating a diverse, inclusive, and feedback-driven engineering culture.

What You'll Do

Your responsibilities will continue to evolve alongside our company, team, and services, but here’s what you might be doing during your first few months:

  • Work with advisors to plan improvements to the retirement planning software they use daily to build clients’ confidence in retirement
  • Collaborate with the Investment Committee to thoroughly test and rollout improvements you make to retirement portfolio rebalancing
  • Incrementally deliver new banking features in the client dashboard across web, iOS and Android apps, presenting weekly demos to advisors and the wider Retirable team
  • Make self-directed improvements to our architecture patterns and developer tooling during sprint cooldowns, or work with our CTO to prioritize larger strategic technical and product initiatives

Tech Stack

  • A Ruby on Rails monolith that is oriented around domain-driven design, CQRS and event sourcing paradigms to give us a decoupled backend that's easy to ship
  • Frontend UI that’s built with React, Typescript, Apollo Client + GraphQL and our own component library to enable us to build branded user interfaces quickly
  • Heroku cloud infrastructure we deploy to continuously using a robust Github Actions CI pipeline, so we can spend more time delivering value to our customers and less time on DevOps

What We’re Looking For

  • 3-5 years of experience working as a professional software engineer
  • Excited about building software that helps everyday Americans retire with confidence
  • Product-minded engineer that is comfortable engaging directly with advisors and clients to solve complex problems
  • Experience writing clear and concise code and establishing or iterating on code patterns that have been adopted by others
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable working in a hybrid remote environment and coming into the office a few days a week
  • Ruby on Rails, React and/or consumer-facing fintech product experience a plus, but not required

Benefits

  • Competitive salary ($130k - $160k) + company equity
  • 401(k)
  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits
  • Flexible and Remote-friendly culture with a convenient office in the heart of Flatiron
  • Leadership opportunities, mentorship, and coaching from an executive team who were early employees at several of NYC’s leading FinTech startups.

Ready to reshape retirement in America? We'd love to hear from you.
