Acquia is an open source digital experience company. We provide the world's most ambitious brands with technology that allows them to embrace innovation and create customer moments that matter. At Acquia we believe in the power of community and collaboration - giving our customers the freedom to build tomorrow on their terms.

Headquartered in Boston, we have been named as one of North America’s fastest growing software companies as reported by Deloitte and Inc. Magazine, and have been rated a leader by the analyst community and named one of the Best Places to Work by the Boston Business Journal. We are Acquia. We are building for the future of the web, and we want you to be a part of it.

Our Drupal Applications Team, along with a robust community of open source contributors, is on a mission to also make Drupal the world's most user-friendly CMS. We are seeking an experienced front-end React engineer with an eye for design and a passion for creating highly polished web applications optimized for user experience. Acquia is seeking a Senior Front End Software Engineer to implement modern, user-centric applications, in a fast-paced software environment. We thrive on innovation, collaboration, and an agile mindset and processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with an amazing team of expert frontend and backend developers.
  • Write quality, maintainable code using front-end best practices.
  • Participate in the agile development process through technical discussions, daily stand-up meetings, code demos, and retrospectives
  • Recommend tools, techniques, and processes to continuously improve the front-end platform
  • Work with the User Experience (UX) team to ensure technical feasibility and visual consistency
  • Work with the front end tooling and build process
  • Implement Figma designs created by Acquia's UX team and then collaborate with that team and with the other engineers on iterating and refining the user experience.
  • Work in public. We build many open source projects with public repositories and a public issue queue.
  • Advocate for and build community consensus around various design and implementation decisions. This includes sometimes changing your mind on what you think the best approach is as new information and feedback comes in, and sometimes explaining and defending your recommendations when others disagree.
  • Write thorough test coverage when code moves beyond the proof of concept stage.
  • Work with teammates and engineering and product managers to determine priorities and timelines.
Skills

The ideal candidate should demonstrate aptitude and interest in most of the following skills.

  • 5+ years of experience with JavaScript, most of which includes React
  • Excellent HTML5 and CSS skills
  • Solid understanding of modern JavaScript frameworks, Typescript and related technologies
  • Proficiency with frontend tooling and the build process: builds (webpack), linting, deployment, testing
  • Experience architecting modular components for code reuse (Federated Modules, Component Libraries)
  • Experience writing unit tests and contributing to automated tests (Jest, Playwright)
  • Experience working with RESTful APIs in a containerized microservice ecosystem
  • Experience with Git
  • Experience with modern, responsive web applications
  • Ability to develop well-structured responsive, cross-browser compatible, and performant code
  • Track record of picking up new technologies and skills quickly
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Can participate in architecture discussions
  • Ability to empathize with your users and help create accessible, inclusive experiences
  • Aptitude for UI design (you don't have to be a professional designer, but you should be able to sense when a design can be improved and have some ideas for how to improve it)
  • Proficiency with automated testing strategies and methodologies
  • Familiarity with using Drupal to create websites (site building experience is a plus)
  • Willingness to review others' work rigorously, holistically, and constructively, and to have your work reviewed
  • Enthusiasm for mentoring and assisting others
  • Commitment to advocate for high-quality code, architecture, and documentation
