As a Staff DevOps Engineer at Superstate, you'll be responsible for building and maintaining highly reliable, scalable infrastructure that powers our financial products. You'll architect robust systems that ensure our platforms deliver exceptional performance, availability, and security at scale. You’ll be wearing many hats across general devops, security, observability, and reliability and help lead these initiatives.
What you'll do
- Design and implement scalable, fault-tolerant infrastructure for our web applications and blockchain systems
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and infrastructure as code
- Develop comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and observability systems to ensure system reliabilityLead incident response efforts and conduct post-incident reviews to improve system resilience
- Implement security best practices across all infrastructure and deployment processes
- Collaborate with engineering teams to optimize application performance and reliability
- Establish SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets to measure and improve service reliability
- Automate operational tasks and reduce manual toil through tooling and process improvements
- Manage capacity planning and cost optimization for cloud resources
What you'll bring to the team
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field
- 8+ years of professional software engineering or infrastructure experience
- Extensive experience with AWS cloud services and infrastructure management
- Extensive experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, Pulumi)
- Strong background in systems engineering, networking, and distributed systems
- Expertise in containerization and orchestration (ECS, EKS)Proficiency in languages (Java, Go, Rust, or similar) for automation and tooling
- Deep understanding of security principles and secure infrastructure practices
- Experience with high-availability systems and disaster recovery planning
- Exceptional problem-solving skills with a reliability and security focused mindset
Bonus points if you have experience with these technologies
- Microservices architecture and service decomposition strategies
- Observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Sentry, etc.)
- Database administration and optimization (PostgreSQL, Redis, AWS RDS)
- AWS security services (GuardDuty, Security Hub, WAF, Shield, Config)
- Cloudflare optimization and security configurations
- Github Actions workflows and deployment strategies
- Compliance automation for financial services (SOC2, ISO, PCI DSS)
- Chaos engineering/resilience testing and reliability best practices
