Provide transactional/legal support to the underwriting team of Markel Surety, including Chief Underwriting Officer and Executive Underwriting Officers to assist in the risk identification, assessment and management of the surety line of business. Reports to Vice President, Contractor Support, Surety. This position can be remote.What we're looking for:
Review construction contracts to be bonded and related bond forms to identify risk areas from a surety perspective and propose solutions to the underwriters
Review agreements that are part of the surety underwriting package (indemnity agreements, capital retention agreements, collateral agreements, non-disclosure agreements, etc.) to identify risk issues and propose solutions
provide the underwriting team statutory and regulatory guidance regarding the surety line of business and engage with inside and outside stakeholders, including clients, brokers and outside counsel on an as-needed basis
What you'll be doing:
Juris Doctor Degree and barred in at least one state;
At least five years of experience in the surety industry;
Preferably has experience with respect to reverse flow business and large national surety accounts
Experience with broker facing relationships
Solution oriented
Excels in problem solving
Able to distill legal concepts and present risk and exposure scenarios clearly to underwriters

Pay information:
The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. The salary for the position is $116,080 - $159,610 with a 25% bonus potential.
