Senior Wireless Networking Engineer

Ford is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to set the overall network standards across wireless engineering and global campus network architecture. This individual will serve as a subject matter expert, establishing best-in-class architectures and configuration standards that guide the design, implementation, and support of Ford's global wireless and campus network environments.

This role is essential to ensuring Ford's network infrastructure remains reliable, secure, and positioned for the future. The successful candidate will combine deep technical expertise with strategic vision, driving automation initiatives that improve overall network health while enabling faster, more effective troubleshooting and issue resolution across the global network.

The Senior Network Engineer will take ownership of defining and evolving Ford's global network standards for wireless engineering and campus network architecture. You will be the go-to expert for establishing best-in-class configuration standards, providing rapid, high-quality troubleshooting support, and driving the automation roadmap that improves network health and reduces manual effort across the team. You'll collaborate with network engineering, infrastructure, and business stakeholders to ensure standards are consistently applied globally, and you will provide the strategic technical leadership needed to move the organization forward rather than simply reacting to issues as they arise.

What you'll do...

• Network Standards Development: Define, document, and maintain Ford's global network standards for wireless engineering and campus network architecture, ensuring alignment with best-in-class industry practices.
• Architecture & Configuration Leadership: Establish and govern configuration standards across the global wireless and campus network environments, ensuring consistency, scalability, and security.
• Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution: Serve as an escalation point for complex wireless and campus network issues, applying deep technical expertise to diagnose and resolve problems quickly and effectively.
• Automation Strategy & Execution: Drive the vision and execution of automation initiatives that improve network health, reduce manual intervention, and increase the efficiency of network operations.
• Strategic Technical Leadership: Provide forward-looking technical leadership to the network engineering team, shifting the team's focus from reactive problem-solving to proactive, standards-driven network management.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with network engineering, infrastructure, and business teams to ensure global network standards are understood, adopted, and consistently applied.
• Continuous Improvement: Stay current with emerging networking technologies and industry best practices, recommending and implementing improvements to Ford's wireless and campus network standards.
• Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing: Mentor other engineers and share best practices to build broader organizational capability in wireless and campus network engineering.

You'll have... 

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, OR a combination of education and experience
• 5+ years of hands-on networking experience, including wireless engineering and campus network architecture.
  • Deep knowledge of best-in-class network architectures and configuration standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex network issues quickly and effectively.
  • Proven experience driving automation initiatives that improve network health and operational efficiency.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills, with the ability to set direction and lead a team beyond reactive issue resolution.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across global, cross-functional teams.

• Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering.
• Relevant industry networking certifications.
• Experience developing enterprise-wide network standards for a large, global organization.
• Scripting or programming skills (e.g., Python) for network automation.
• Experience with Agile project methodologies and tools.

This position is a range of salary grade 8 |  $115,000 – $192,900

SOUTHEAST MI RESIDENTS: This role is posted as remote unless you reside within 50 miles of Dearborn, MI—in which case we request on-site presence up to 4 days a week.
