Job Description:

About the Team:

The WSJ Opinion section's mission is to inform readers about the news of the day with a consistent philosophy that can be summed up as "free people and free markets." While we aim to inform and persuade, we seek to encourage debate across the political spectrum. WSJ Opinion offers original analysis and strong points of view on the news of the day.

About the Role

The Wall Street Journal Opinion section is looking for a New York-based social media editor to join our growing digital team. This is an exciting opportunity to collaborate closely with some of the best opinion writers and editors in the industry to ensure that the section's social and off-platform content reaches and engages our audience effectively.

This role will focus on executing daily social promotion, optimizing performance using data insights, and contributing to audience growth efforts across platforms. The social media editor will work closely with the Managing Editor and audience team to support broader distribution strategies. This position reports to the Managing Editor, Opinion, and will be based in our New York office. Applicants should include a cover letter and resume.

You Will:

  • Execute daily social media promotion based on audience insights and editorial priorities.
  • Support the expansion of the Opinion brand's social media presence by introducing our content offerings over new social media platforms to attract a broader audience.
  • Optimize WSJ Opinion story packages for highest off-platform impact, including adjusting headline style and length, graphic sizing and legibility, photo crops, hyperlinks, etc., based on the information and suggestions provided by editors and industry best practices.
  • Assist with paid promotion tactics and help monitor performance metrics. Track and report on WSJ Opinion's social-media performance, identifying opportunities to improve engagement and traffic.
  • Participate in A/B testing initiatives and help implement learnings into future posts.
  • Compile regular performance summaries and share insights with editors and production teams.
  • Collaborate with the Managing Editor to identify trends and opportunities for off-platform expansion or growth.

You Have:

  • Ideally 2-4 years of experience on a social media team at a news organization, or a successful online retailer or e-commerce company. Comfortable working with performance data and translating insights into actionable improvements.
  • Excellent writing skills. All copy should be error-free and reflect sound editorial judgment.
  • Strong understanding of social platforms and referral traffic drivers.
  • Familiarity with analytics and reporting tools.
  • It is essential that candidates be familiar with the ideas, philosophy and principles for which The Wall Street Journal editorial page stands.

Additional Preferred Skills

  • Experience with SEO and audience analytical tools such as Adobe Analytics, Parse.ly, Google Analytics, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with social media management tools such as Social Flow, Later, Sprout, etc.
  • Interest in audience engagement and community building online.
  • Basic video, design, or multimedia production experience is a plus.

Our Benefits

  • Comprehensive Healthcare Plans
  • Paid Time Off
  • Retirement Plans
  • Comprehensive Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance Plans
  • Education Benefits
  • Paid Maternity and Paternity Leave
  • Family Care Benefits
  • Commuter Transit Program
  • Subscription Discounts
  • Employee Referral Program
