The Social Media Manager will lead the development and execution of Girls Who Code’s social media strategy to grow brand awareness, deepen audience engagement, and build the brand’s thought leadership across digital platforms. This role will also include the management of the CEO’s brand and thought leadership presence online. This role requires a strategic and creative manager who can translate organizational priorities into compelling social content, drive performance through data-informed decision-making, and identify new opportunities to engage and inspire our audiences.
Reporting to the Sr. Director of Marketing, the Social Media Manager will oversee Girls Who Code’s social media presence and serve as the organization’s primary subject matter expert on social media strategy, content, trends, and platform innovation. They must possess the ability to rapidly translate breaking news, public events, and emerging conversations into timely, mission-aligned social content that engages audiences and advances organizational goals. The Social Media Manager will collaborate closely with teams across the organization to elevate Girls Who Code’s mission and impact through thoughtful storytelling and community engagement.
The ideal candidate is a highly organized and proactive marketer with strong content instincts, exceptional communication skills, experience managing integrated social media campaigns, and a passion for advancing equity in technology. This individual is comfortable balancing strategy and execution, working independently, and collaborating across teams to achieve shared goals.
This role is NYC-based and requires 2 in-office days per week.Responsibilities:
- Content Development & Campaign Management
Lead the planning, creation, and execution of engaging, high-quality social content across platforms including Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, BlueSky, YouTube, Facebook, and other relevant channels.
Develop content strategies that elevate Girls Who Code’s thought leadership, partnerships, fundraising initiatives, and community impact.
Manage the content calendar and oversee day-to-day social media publishing, community engagement, and content optimization.
Lead social media campaigns from concept through execution, ensuring alignment with broader marketing and communications initiatives.
Partner closely with the Senior Graphic Designer and external vendors, as needed, to create visually compelling content that aligns with brand standards.
Identify and execute opportunities for real-time content, trend participation, and cultural moments that align with the organization’s mission and values.
Community Engagement & PartnershipsFoster meaningful engagement with Girls Who Code’s online communities through weekly audience interaction, conversation management, and relationship-building.
Develop and maintain relationships with influencers, creators, alumni, partners, and advocates to amplify reach and engagement.
Support executive thought leadership and organizational storytelling through strategic social media initiatives.
Monitor social conversations and sentiment to identify opportunities, emerging issues, and community feedback.
Analytics & Performance OptimizationTrack, analyze, and report on social media performance across platforms, campaigns, and content formats.
Translate data into actionable insights and recommendations to improve engagement, audience growth, and campaign effectiveness.
Utilize social media management and analytics tools to measure ROI and optimize strategy.
Create regular reports and presentations for leadership, highlighting performance trends, learnings, and opportunities.
Cross-Functional CollaborationCollaborate with teams across Programs, Development, Research, and Executive Leadership to support organizational priorities through social media.
Develop strategic content plans and campaigns that support key initiatives, events, partnerships, fundraising efforts, and programmatic milestones.
Ensure consistency in brand voice, messaging, and visual identity across all social channels.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Minumum 4 years of experience managing social media strategy and content.
Demonstrated ability to develop and publish high-quality social content quickly in response to timely news, cultural moments, organizational priorities, and public events, while exercising sound judgment and maintaining brand consistency.
Demonstrated success developing and executing social media strategies that increase brand awareness, audience engagement, and measurable business or organizational outcomes.
Experience creating content for, and managing the social media presence of a senior executive, high-profile leader, or public figure.
Exceptional storytelling and copywriting skills, with the ability to adapt messaging across platforms while maintaining a consistent brand voice.
Strong understanding of social media platforms, audience behaviors, platform best practices, emerging trends, and digital culture.
Experience planning and managing integrated social media campaigns from concept through reporting.
Experience leading and managing meetings to support social media strategy development and execution in collaboration with multiple stakeholders.
Proficiency with social media management and analytics platforms.
Experience analyzing performance data and translating insights into actionable recommendations that improve content strategy and campaign performance.
Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Experience collaborating cross-functionally with internal teams, executives, and external partners.
Familiarity with accessible and inclusive content creation best practices across digital platforms.
Knowledge of influencer marketing, creator partnerships, and community management is a plus.
Experience creating or directing short-form video content for platforms such as Instagram Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts is strongly preferred.
