In This Role

In this role, you will build and maintain automation tooling that supports industrial telemetry onboarding and data standardization. You will develop C#/.NET-based applications and services that transform device templates and historical tag data into structured configuration outputs used by downstream cloud data pipelines.

A key part of the role involves applied machine learning, including developing and refining classification models that help map telemetry tags to the correct template fields. You will work with historical datasets, improve model accuracy and coverage, validate telemetry data end-to-end, and help reduce manual onboarding effort through automation.

You will also support modernization efforts for legacy systems, troubleshoot production issues, document your work, and collaborate with engineering and data teams to deliver reliable, maintainable solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain C#/.NET automation tools, including console applications and Worker Services.
  • Build tooling that converts Excel-based device templates into structured CSV, configuration, or pipeline-ready outputs.
  • Develop and refine applied machine learning models for telemetry tag classification and template-field mapping.
  • Perform feature engineering and data preparation using messy historical industrial controls and telemetry datasets.
  • Prototype ML or data-processing approaches in Python when appropriate, then help transition production logic into the core C#/.NET stack.
  • Validate telemetry data quality and mapping accuracy across cloud-based data pipelines.
  • Work with Azure IoT, Event Hub, Kusto/KQL, and related data services to troubleshoot and verify end-to-end data flow.
  • Modify, maintain, and enhance existing databases, database structures, and legacy systems as needed.
  • Partner with stakeholders to gather requirements, estimate scope, and deliver solutions from development through testing and release.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce manual processes, improve onboarding efficiency, and increase automation reliability.
  • Troubleshoot issues, perform root-cause analysis, and make system changes to resolve defects or data-quality problems.
  • Write technical documentation and provide knowledge transfer so delivered tooling can be maintained long-term.
  • Mentor or support teammates through code reviews, technical guidance, and constructive feedback.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5–7 years of software engineering experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on C#/.NET development experience.
  • Experience building production-ready tooling, services, console applications, or backend automation workflows.
  • 3+ years of applied machine learning or classification experience.
  • Experience with text or tabular classification models using tools such as ML.NET, scikit-learn, embeddings, or similar approaches.
  • Strong SQL and database development experience, including modifying existing database structures or systems.
  • Experience working across the full software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, development, testing, delivery, and support.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and independently drive them to resolution.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and deliver against project commitments.
  • Experience documenting technical work and supporting maintainability of delivered solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with industrial control systems, telemetry systems, device data, or operational technology environments.
  • Experience with Azure IoT, Event Hub, Kusto/KQL, or similar cloud data-plane technologies.
  • Experience building automation that transforms templates, configuration files, CSV outputs, or structured operational data.
  • Experience improving legacy systems and modernizing manual or spreadsheet-driven workflows.
  • Experience with feature engineering on historical, inconsistent, or messy datasets.
  • Familiarity with lightweight MLOps practices, including model evaluation, retraining, deployment, or monitoring.
  • Experience using Azure DevOps or similar work-tracking and delivery tools.
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled developer tools, copilots, agents, or MCP-style patterns.
  • Strong process-improvement mindset with a demonstrated ability to challenge existing workflows and propose better solutions.
  • Stable work history and a track record of seeing projects through from prototype to production.
