Software Engineer - Full Stack

Custral exists because a fundamental problem in how modern companies operate has gone largely unsolved.

As companies grow, their customer lifecycle fragments across sales, implementation, support, product, and internal teams. Information is lost, handoffs break down, and customers feel the impact. Most software optimizes for individual functions rather than the system as a whole, which makes this fragmentation worse over time.

Custral is a zero-to-one platform built to solve this holistically. We are rethinking how data, workflows, and ownership work across the full customer lifecycle so that teams can operate as one system rather than a collection of disconnected tools. This is not a narrow vertical solution or an incremental improvement. It is a foundational re-architecture for a massive market.

The team behind Custral is built and funded by people who have lived this problem firsthand. We know it deeply, we are building from first principles, and we are focused on creating something big and enduring.

We are looking for an engineer to help build the Custral product end-to-end.

This is a full-stack role with real ownership. You will work across the frontend and backend, design and build core product functionality, and take ideas from concept through production. There is no handoff model. You are expected to think deeply about the problem, do your own research, and make informed decisions about how things should be built.

You will have a high degree of autonomy and trust. That comes with responsibility. You will shape product direction, influence architecture, and iterate directly with real users. We care less about rigid role boundaries and more about impact, judgment, and execution.

This role is best suited for someone who enjoys freedom, ambiguity, and building from first principles, and who wants to have a direct hand in shaping both the product and the system behind it.

You will succeed in this role if you can operate independently, make sound technical decisions, and collaborate effectively when needed.

In practice, that means:

• You are deeply fluent in TypeScript and comfortable using it across the stack
  You have built and maintained full-stack products end-to-end

• You have strong experience with React on the frontend and Node.js (Express) on the backend

• You have worked extensively with PostgreSQL and understand data modeling, performance, and migrations

• You have experience using Redis for caching, queues, or real-time systems

• You have worked with Elasticsearch or similar systems for search or high-volume querying

• You have experience building and operating high-volume production systems

• You can work autonomously, do your own research, and move work forward without constant direction

• You collaborate well with others, communicate clearly, and know when to pull people in

Our process is deliberate and transparent:

• 15-minute phone screen to see if there is fit on both sides

• 30-minute screen focused on experience and thinking

• 60-minute technical interview relevant to the role

• Four-hour in-person onsite in our New York City office

It is probably not a good fit if you prefer narrowly scoped tasks, rigid requirements, or a low-intensity environment. That tradeoff is intentional.

Custral is an early-stage startup. The pace is high, the work is demanding, and there will be long days. The tradeoff is real ownership, accelerated learning, and the opportunity to help build something foundational from the ground up.

We offer top-of-market compensation and meaningful upside with the expectation that you are exceptional and willing to put in the work. This is a high-bar environment by design.

For this role, total compensation includes:

• Base salary: $120,000 – $175,000

• Equity: 0.5% – 1% (meaningful ownership, early-stage)

• 401(k): Company match up to 3.5%

Final compensation is determined by experience, impact, and role level, not by tenure or credentials alone.

This role is based in New York, NY, and requires in-person work five days per week. Relocation assistance may be available on a case-by-case basis.
