About Finch

We believe every American household deserves access to counsel in life’s biggest moments. At Finch, we’re building the infrastructure to make justice radically more accessible. Our modern approach to consumer law automates the admin work and puts clients first, starting with personal injury.

Since launching in April, we’ve grown 10x and are now powering pre-litigation for top law firms across the country. We combine expert operators with purpose-built AI to handle intake, claim opening, medical records, police reports, lien management, demands, and everything in between.

We’re backed by Sequoia, Redpoint, and the founders & CEOs of generational companies like DoorDash, Ironclad, and Digits. We’re rebuilding how the law serves everyday Americans from first principles, and we’re hiring exceptional operators to help us scale it nationwide.

This Role

Personal injury law is drowning in repetitive tasks, paper-based bottlenecks, and fragmented data — and we're building the software to fix it. As a Software Engineer at Finch, you'll own critical features end-to-end, ship fast, and work directly alongside product, ops, and design in a codebase where your decisions matter from day one.

What You'll Do

This is a full-stack engineering role at a company where the product is evolving quickly and engineers have real ownership — expect the scope to grow as we do.

  • Own major features end-to-end, from architecture decisions through production release.

  • Build reliable, performant systems across our core workflows using Python/Django, React, and AWS.

  • Ship AI-powered functionality that turns legal complexity into clear, usable software for law firms.

  • Collaborate directly with product, ops, and design to define what gets built and why.

  • Shape our engineering culture, standards, and practices while we're still small enough for it to matter.

Who We Have in Mind

This role is for engineers who want ownership over outcomes, not just tickets. Here's what that requires.

Must-Haves
  • 3+ years building reliable, secure software in production.

  • Full-stack experience — comfortable across the frontend and backend.

  • Proficiency in Python and React, or demonstrably fast at picking up new stacks.

  • A track record of writing clean, testable, maintainable code.

Nice-to-Haves
  • Experience with Django, AWS, or OpenAI APIs.

  • Prior work at an early-stage startup where you helped set engineering standards.

  • Familiarity with legal tech, document processing, or data-heavy workflows.

This Role Might Not Be For You If
  • You do your best work with a well-defined spec and a stable, established codebase.

  • You prefer deep specialization in one layer of the stack over full-stack ownership.

  • You're looking for a remote-first role — this one is 4 days/week in our NYC office.

Compensation

The expected package for this role includes base salary + equity.

  • Base salary = $160,000 - $250,000

Benefits
  • 100% coverage for health, dental, and vision.

  • 401(k) retirement plan.

  • In-office snacks, drinks, and daily team lunches and dinners.

  • Flexible PTO (we trust you to take the time you need).

Interview Process
  1. Intro: An initial call to see if there's a mutual fit.

  2. Interview: Technical session(s) with engineer(s) on the team.

  3. Onsite: A visit to our NYC office to interview, meet the team, and have lunch.

At Finch Legal, we believe in practicing what we advocate.

We recognize that diversity strengthens our team, enriches our perspectives, and empowers us to better serve our clients and communities. At Finch Legal, inclusion isn’t just a value — it’s a practice.
