Job Description
The senior deckhand position on our vessels is an incredibly vital role. Those who qualify for this position are natural leaders, have a variety of relevant skills, know the critical systems of each vessel, are extremely reliable and dedicated to the vessel and the business. They are the eyes and ears for the captain under daily operations and carry out commands from the wheelhouse to run the deck crew properly.
Responsibilities
The senior deckhand is responsible for onboard operation. Delegating duties to crew members, machinery start up and shut down, boarding/ disembarking, and oversight of bunkering are examples of a few daily duties.
Vessel Startup
  • assigning duties to deckhands
  • check engine fluids and add as necessary
  • fill out engine log
  • inspect all vital ship systems for operation
Vessel Operation
  • direct deckhands during docking
  • control passengers at gangway during boarding
  • perform spot checks to insure crew is working properly
  • engine room checks
  • assist captain as needed
Vessel Shutdown
  • Confirm vessel is safely moored for the night
  • direct crew for final rounds and shore power connection
  • shut down engines
  • drop load on generator and switch to shore power
Preferred Experience
The ideal candidate will have
  • managerial experience 1-3 years
  • experience working in a customer service industry 1-3 years
  • experience working on vessels 1-3 years
  • availability to work nights, weekends, holidays
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $27.00 per hour
