As the Senior Manager, R&D – AI Engineering, you will play a critical leadership role in shaping IMO Health’s AI innovation strategy. You will oversee a team of PhD-level researchers and guide the development of transformative AI solutions that drive real-world impact across healthcare. Your focus will be on accelerating IMO's AI maturity through deep technical rigor, operational excellence, and strategic alignment with product and engineering. You will lead the establishment of an AI Center of Excellence, serve as a key voice in technical strategy, and ensure that research investments directly contribute to business growth and industry leadership.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Lead and scale a high-performing team of AI researchers, instilling a culture of innovation, scientific excellence, and business impact.
- Define and drive the AI R&D strategy, aligning research priorities with IMO’s broader product vision and enterprise goals.
- Oversee the full research lifecycle, from ideation and hypothesis formation to experimentation, validation, and readiness for production deployment.
- Serve as a strategic thought partner to Product, Engineering, and Enterprise Architecture leadership, identifying and framing high-value AI research initiatives.
- Ensure research translation, guiding the seamless integration of novel AI technologies into real-world products and platforms.
- Establish and evolve the AI Center of Excellence, setting best practices for experimentation, reproducibility, model evaluation, and responsible AI.
- Advance the state of AI at IMO Health, staying ahead of industry trends in machine learning, LLMs, generative AI, and healthcare AI, and infusing those insights into the roadmap.
- Champion responsible AI principles, embedding fairness, explainability, and accountability into research processes and model evaluation frameworks.
- Represent AI R&D at the executive level, contributing to cross-functional strategy, investment decisions, and technical leadership forums.
- Mentor, hire, and develop top-tier AI talent, while fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and intellectually curious team environment.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- PhD or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in AI/ML R&D, with a proven record of delivering applied innovation and leading through ambiguity.
- 5+ years of experience managing researchers or applied scientists in a high-impact setting, ideally within a scaling tech or healthcare company.
- Deep expertise in modern machine learning techniques, including LLMs, generative models, and neural architectures.
- Advanced proficiency with Python and key ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face).
- Experience with MLOps best practices and modern cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, etc.).
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence across senior technical and non-technical stakeholders.
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience applying AI in healthcare or life sciences.
- A publication record or track record of contributions to the AI research community.
- Familiarity with regulatory, privacy, or ethical considerations in healthcare AI.
