Position OverviewThe Sr. Perishable Sales Specialist will lead a team of perishable sales specialists. The Sr. Perishable Sales Specialist will also consult, advise, and direct the retail customer base on the best practices to grow fresh market share and increased perishable revenue and profitability.  The position will engage decision makers and Independent Retailers to assist with the sales and merchandising of Meat, Deli, Bakery and Produce Categories as well as work to increase the volume of products and programs that the company offers.

Description

  • Lead, mentor and develop perishable specialists
  • Execute daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly sell programs
  • Provide regular Category Training on new items, merchandising and departmental best practices to retailers and team
  • Inform special activities, demand forecasts, product surveys and promotional bookings
  • Optimize category assortment and close key category voids in conjunction with Category Management and merchandising/ Procurement team(s)
  • Assist Fresh department managers, owners, and/or supervisors with product selection, training on new products and proper merchandising, retails to establish proper gross profits for departments, assist writing ads using ad program, and maintain the product list with acceptable retails
  • Make routed individual store visits to assist retailers in achieving and maintaining a business relationship with the company, including problem solving, negotiating, and development of programs while securing integrity and trust between our company and the retailer
  • Sell special buy programs and the associated merchandising programs
  • Inform both the retailer and team of competitive activities both locally and nationally
  • Conduct sales of new programs and services; understand and explain the company's programs and services to the retailer's buyers / representatives

Skills

  • Understanding of all technical and managerial supermarket functions [all facets] – some wholesale knowledge [understanding of transportation, schedules, and equipment]
  • Knowledge of product procurement and vendor relations; perishable product and supply chain knowledge
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written, time management negotiating abilities, problem solving, interpersonal relationship, financials related to supermarkets P&L's
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent presentation skills; Ability to be flexible
  • Food Safety Certified or Food Safety Certification Eligible

Years Of Experience

  • 7-10: at least 10 years of retail and wholesale perishables category experience
