Our healthcare system is the leading cause of personal bankruptcy in the U.S. Every year, over 50 million Americans suffer adverse financial consequences as a result of seeking care, from lower credit scores to garnished wages. The challenge is only getting worse, as high deductible health plans are the fastest growing plan design in the U.S.
Cedar’s mission is to leverage data science, smart product design and personalization to make healthcare more affordable and accessible. Today, healthcare providers still engage with its consumers in a “one-size-fits-all” approach; and Cedar is excited to leverage consumer best practices to deliver a superior experience.
The Role
We are seeking a seasoned Senior Software Engineer to join our Data Integration and Platforms team. This role will help us tackle challenges of scale, quality and insight as the company grows its market share and product scope. You will be responsible for building systems and technologies used by client-facing engineers performing data integrations with electronic health record systems; those used by product engineers integrating with partners and making their own data available for analysis; those used by data scientists creating business insights that help build better products and create better patient experiences. This new team brings together engineers from multiple parts of the organization, and you will be responsible for building toward a common data, AI and ML platform vision - then relentlessly executing while staying atop evolving business priorities.
In this role you will:
- Evolve our integration data pipelines from homegrown ETL scripts to a modern, scalable data stack (e.g., dbt, Airflow, Snowflake).
- Engineer for scale, improve the performance of our data pipelines to handle the daily processing of tens of millions of records while ensuring high quality and robust observability
- Develop our data platform to serve our most popular products while laying the foundation to enable ease of data onboarding and use for new experiments and use cases
- Balance delivery on the needs of today while keeping an eye toward our future North Star Architecture, grounding deliverables in business critical outcomes with strong engineering fundamentals
- Collaborate closely with delivery engineering teams on mechanisms to improve the quality, speed and scalability of data integration with healthcare providers.
- Continuously drive scalability into data tools, processes and engineering practices in order to reduce implementation and analytic timelines, customer friction points and maintenance costs.
- Act as a technical mentor for the team, establishing coding standards and best practices for our evolving data platform.
- Apply rigorous software engineering practices to the data domain, including version control, automated testing (unit/integration), CI/CD, and structured logging/observability.
- 5+ years of experience in software design and systems engineering, with some time in teams integrating or using large and complex datasets.
- Fluency reading and writing Python code, with particular familiarity in common data processing libraries
- Technical expertise across the data ecosystem: storage, query and ETL orchestration technology; governance and quality; analytics, visualization, and AI/ML pipelines.
- You are familiar with data engineering paradigms like ETL, ELT, Medallion Architecture, and Data Mesh and can reason between them
- Proven track record of bringing clarity to ambiguity and successfully delivering complex data-oriented projects with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Strong self starter initiative, Cedar is a mature startup but successful candidates will still need a strong drive to understand the systems and navigate them to deliver successfully
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with competing priorities
- Familiarity with data engineering tools like dbt, Snowflake, Apache Airflow, Dagster, SQL Alchemy, Fivetran, Kafka
- Familiarity with Kotlin and Go
Compensation Range and Benefits
- Salary Range*: $195,500 - $247,250
- This role is equity eligible
- This role offers a competitive benefits and wellness package
*Subject to location, experience, and education
