Sr. SQL Database Administrator (DBA)

Enterprise Horizon Consulting Group is seeking a Senior SQL Database Administrator (DBA) to serve as a Subject Matter Expert supporting a federal customer's enterprise SQL database environment. This role is 100% remote, working hours are based on Eastern Time. The position will provide administration, operations, monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, development support, and technical leadership across SQL Server and SQL Cluster environments operating on-premises and in the cloud.

The position requires a minimum of 8 years of relevant database experience, including significant expertise administering enterprise Microsoft SQL Server environments. This role is contingent upon contract award.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise Microsoft SQL Server environments.
• Administer and maintain SQL Server Cluster environments and standalone SQL databases.
• Create, install, configure, and manage SQL databases and database servers.
• Perform SQL Server installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, and scheduled maintenance.
• Maintain and troubleshoot database High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions.
• Perform advanced SQL Server performance tuning and optimization.
• Analyze database performance metrics and identify queries, indexes, configurations, and infrastructure affecting database performance.
• Develop and maintain SQL scripts and database administration automation.
• Design and support database backup, restore, recovery, and DR processes.
• Monitor database health, capacity, availability, and performance using enterprise monitoring tools such as Idera and SolarWinds.
• Conduct proactive capacity planning and recommend infrastructure or configuration improvements.
• Troubleshoot database-related application integrations, including integrations with enterprise applications such as SharePoint.
• Manage database support requests, incidents, and change requests through ServiceNow.
• Lead troubleshooting efforts and root cause analysis for complex database incidents.
• Develop and maintain database configuration and administration standards.
• Support database security, auditing, encryption, and compliance requirements.
• Work directly with technical teams and customer stakeholders to resolve database issues.
• Participate in scheduled after-hours patching, server reboots, and support activities.
• Document activities and contribute to required weekly customer support reports.

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in database administration and related database disciplines.
• Advanced Microsoft SQL Server administration experience.
• Hands-on experience with:
• Microsoft SQL Server
• SQL Server Clustering
• SQL scripting
• Database provisioning/configuration
• Backup and restoration
• Performance tuning
• Database/server patching
• High Availability
• Disaster Recovery
• Monitoring and alerting
• Database security
• Incident management and root cause analysis
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
• Ability to independently resolve complex database and server issues.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Current or previous Microsoft or SQL-related professional certification.
• Federal government IT experience.
• Cloud database administration experience.
• ServiceNow experience.
• Idera and/or SolarWinds experience.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, Oracle, and MS Access.
