Position Title:  Senior Systems Administrator


Location:           Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB), Dayton, Ohio


Position Type: Full-Time, On-Site


Clearance:        Active Top Secret Clearance required with eligibility for SCI access. SAP eligibility and prior experience supporting Special Access Programs (SAP) highly desired.

 

Required Certifications:  (One or more of the following) CISSP, CAP, CISM, CASP+ / SecurityX, Security+, CySA+, RHCSA, RHCE, Must meet DoD 8570/8140 IAM Level II/III or IAT Level II requirements.


Education: Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or related field. Preferred: Master’s degree in related discipline.

 

Position Overview

The Senior Systems Administrator serves as the lead technical administrator responsible for the design, implementation, operation, security, maintenance, and optimization of classified information systems supporting Department of Defense and Air Force mission requirements. The position provides senior-level expertise across Windows, Linux, virtualization, cloud, containerized, and networked environments while ensuring compliance with DoD cybersecurity, Risk Management Framework (RMF), and Information Assurance requirements.

 

 

Required Qualifications

• Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.

• U.S. Citizenship.

• Minimum 8–10 years of systems administration experience.

• Minimum 3 years supporting SCI and/or SAP environments.

• Extensive experience administering Windows and Linux systems.

• Experience supporting classified DoD information systems.

• Experience implementing RMF and DISA STIG requirements.

• Experience with enterprise virtualization technologies.

• Experience with automation frameworks and scripting.

• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.

Desired Experience

• Air Force or DoD operational environment experience.

• SAP administration experience within the past five years.

• OpenShift administration.

• DevSecOps platform support.

• Cloud infrastructure administration.

• Acquisition program office support experience.

• Experience supporting highly available mission-critical systems.

• Experience leading technical teams and mentoring junior personnel.

Qualifications

Primary Responsibilities

Systems Administration

  • Design, implement, administer, and maintain Windows Server and Linux operating systems within classified environments.
  • Manage Active Directory, Group Policy Objects (GPOs), LDAP, Identity Management (IdM), DNS, DHCP, and enterprise authentication services.
  • Administer enterprise server infrastructure supporting mission-critical applications.
  • Configure and maintain physical and virtual server environments.
  • Perform installation, configuration, maintenance, patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management of enterprise systems.
  • Monitor system health, availability, reliability, and performance.
  • Perform capacity planning and infrastructure optimization.
  • Develop and maintain system architecture documentation.

Classified Network Operations

  • Support multiple classified networks operating within SCI and SAP environments.
  • Maintain system availability, integrity, confidentiality, and compliance.
  • Implement secure network configurations and system hardening measures.
  • Troubleshoot complex system, network, application, and interoperability issues.
  • Support government inspections, assessments, and accreditation activities.

Cybersecurity & Information Assurance

  • Implement and maintain RMF controls.
  • Execute DISA STIG implementation and sustainment.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and remediation activities.
  • Analyze and remediate findings from:
  • ACAS
  • Nessus
  • HBSS
  • Splunk
  • SCAP Compliance Checker
  • Develop and maintain System Security Plans (SSPs).
  • Support cybersecurity audits and inspections.
  • Manage certificates, PKI infrastructure, and cryptographic solutions.
  • Implement and maintain security baselines.
  • Ensure compliance with:
  • DoD 8570
  • DoD 8140
  • NIST 800-53
  • RMF
  • Air Force cybersecurity directives

Linux Enterprise Administration

  • Administer Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Rocky Linux, CentOS, and Ubuntu systems.
  • Configure and manage:
  • SELinux
  • FApolicyd
  • LDAP
  • IdM
  • SSH
  • NFS
  • DNS services
  • Perform Linux kernel tuning and performance optimization.
  • Troubleshoot operating system, service, and application issues.
  • Utilize advanced troubleshooting tools including:

  • ping
  • journalctl
  • systemctl

Containerization & Platform Administration

  • Deploy and administer containerized environments utilizing:
  • Kubernetes
  • OpenShift
  • Docker

  • Manage container networking, persistent storage, and platform security.
  • Administer:
  • Helm
  • Kustomize
  • CSI
  • CNI
  • Support DevSecOps initiatives and modernization efforts.
  • Automation & Infrastructure as Code
  • Develop and maintain automation solutions using:
  • Ansible
  • Terraform
  • Bash
  • PowerShell
  • Python
  • Automate provisioning, configuration management, patching, compliance validation, and reporting.
  • Integrate automation into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Support Git-based development and deployment environments.
  • Virtualization & Cloud Technologies
  • Administer VMware, vSphere, ESXi, and KVM environments.
  • Manage virtual machines, templates, storage, and resource allocation.
  • Support cloud-hosted and hybrid infrastructures where applicable.
  • Assist with migration and modernization initiatives.

Backup & Disaster Recovery

• Develop and maintain backup strategies.

• Ensure successful completion of scheduled backups.

• Conduct disaster recovery testing and recovery validation.

• Maintain continuity of operations plans and procedures.

Leadership & Technical Guidance

• Serve as technical lead for systems administration activities.

• Mentor junior system administrators.

• Provide technical recommendations for infrastructure improvements.

• Support engineering reviews, architecture discussions, and modernization initiatives.

• Interface directly with government customers and senior leadership.
