We believe that mental health is just as important as physical health. We recognize that mental health issues can be complex and multifaceted, and we are dedicated to treating the whole person, not just the symptoms.

We aim to create a world where mental health is no longer stigmatized or marginalized, but rather is embraced as an integral part of one's overall well-being.

We believe that by providing quality care that is both evidence-based and compassionate, we can empower individuals to take charge of their mental health and achieve their full potential. We are passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of those struggling with mental health issues and we strive to be a force for positive change in the field of mental healthcare.

Rula is a remote-first company. We currently hire in most U.S. states, with the exception of Hawaii.

About the Role

We're looking for a Senior User Experience Researcher (Sr. UXR) to help us understand and improve the journey from first considering mental healthcare to finding the right care and successfully getting started.

You’ll lead research focused on the patient experience, helping us understand what builds confidence and trust across the journey from first discovering Rula to booking and attending a first session. You'll identify opportunities, frame ambiguous product questions, and translate patient insights and behavioral data into clear recommendations that shape what we build, test, and prioritize.

You'll sit within the User Research team, while working closely with Product, Design, Data/Analytics, and Marketing to ensure product decisions are grounded in rigorous research and a deep understanding of our patients.

This is a highly autonomous role. We're looking for someone who can identify the questions worth answering, determine the right research approach, lead studies end-to-end, and influence decisions with their findings. You'll have meaningful ownership over a product area while partnering closely with cross-functional teams to drive measurable improvements in the patient experience.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of UX Research experience, with demonstrated strength across qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods research and the ability to select the right approach based on the decision at hand.

  • High degree of ownership: Demonstrated ability to independently build and lead a research program, from identifying opportunities and framing problems through research execution, synthesis, and influencing product decisions.

  • Product & Funnel Impact: Experience researching and improving acquisition, onboarding, activation, conversion, or other critical product journeys, with a track record of translating research into measurable product impact.

  • Methodological rigor & speed: Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality research quickly, making sound tradeoffs around methodology, sample size, and depth based on the decision and timeline. Comfortable working iteratively and adapting research plans as new evidence emerges.

  • Strategic problem framing: Ability to turn ambiguous business and product questions into clear, decision-oriented research plans that help teams answer “build, don’t build, or what should we build?”

  • Cross-functional influence: Proven ability to partner effectively with Product, Design, Data/Analytics, and other stakeholders, build alignment around research implications, and influence decisions without direct authority.

  • Strong communication: Ability to synthesize complex qualitative and quantitative findings into clear, compelling narratives tailored to different audiences, including senior stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience conducting research in a multi-sided marketplace, such as products serving both consumers and professionals.

  • Experience conducting research across multiple connected product surfaces, such as mobile and web.

  • Experience owning a longitudinal or ongoing measurement program, such as a trust, satisfaction, or experience tracker.

  • Experience working closely with product, design or marketing teams on acquisition and conversion.

  • Background in healthcare, mental health, or another sensitive product domain.

  • Experience working on products where trust, confidence, or risk meaningfully influence user behavior.

We're serious about your well-being! As part of our team, full-time employees receive:

  • 100% remote work environment: Working hours to support a healthy work-life balance, ensuring you can meet both professional and personal commitments (must be based in United States, currently not hiring in Hawaii)

  • Attractive pay and benefits: Full transparency of pay ranges regardless of where you live in the United States

  • Comprehensive health benefits: Medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and FSA/HSA

  • 401(k) plan access: Start saving for your future

  • Generous time-off policies: Including 2 company-wide shutdown weeks each year for self-care (for most employees)

  • Paid parental leave: Available for all parents, including birthing, non-birthing, adopting, and fostering

  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP): Supporting your mental and physical health

  • Quarterly department stipend: Fun team-building activities or in-person gatherings

  • Community and employee resource groups: Participate in groups that celebrate employee identity and lived experiences, fostering a sense of community and belonging for all

  • Home office stipend: New hire home office stipend & $50 monthly stipend to help cover internet or cell phone expenses

  • Wellness at Rula program: Year-round wellness initiatives and a $50/month wellness stipend

Our team

We believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion are fundamental to our mission of making mental healthcare work for everyone.  We are dedicated to having a culture of inclusion that will support our employees in feeling safe, seen, heard, and valued.
