ABOUT MASTERWORKS:

Masterworks is a fintech platform that allows anyone to invest in SEC-qualified shares of multi-million dollar paintings by names like Banksy, Basquiat, and Picasso. In just three short years, we have built a portfolio of nearly $800 million in world-class artworks, introducing over 800,000 individuals to the $1.7 trillion art market.

Masterworks has been covered by major media publications such as The New York Times, CNBC, The Wall Street Journal, and the Financial Times, and was recently recognized as one of the Top 50 Startups in the US by LinkedIn.

In 2021, Masterworks achieved unicorn status raising $110M in its Series A fundraising round at a valuation exceeding $1 billion.

Our 200+ employees are based out of our offices at Brookfield Place in the Financial District of New York City. With an entirely in-office team, there are endless opportunities for collaboration, innovation, and learning.

ROLE:

This isn't your grandfather's accounting role. We need someone who gets excited about both debits/credits AND automating the hell out of repetitive tasks. You'll be stepping into a well-built system, but we need someone to operate it reliably while finding ways to make it even better.

You'll report to: Our Senior Accounting Manager

YOU MIGHT BE OUR PERSON IF:

  • You're that rare breed who understands both accounting principles AND technical systems
  • You tried being a developer but missed the structure of accounting (or vice versa)
  • The idea of managing 500 SPVs doesn't make you break into a cold sweat
  • You geek out on automating random stuff at home just because you can
  • You dream about AI agentic workflows
  • You know financial statement prep cold, including 10Ks and Qs–you know what the end product should look like
  • You're intellectually curious and love learning new tools
  • You thrive on systems and process improvement
  • You're detail-oriented without being paralyzed by perfectionism

DAILY TOOLS YOU'LL MASTER:

  • NetSuite (this is non-negotiable)
  • Google Sheets (all the tricks)
  • Excel (10th dan belt is table stakes)
  • Python vibecoder (you don't need to be a wizard, but appreciation helps)
  • Alteryx
  • Numeric
  • Ramp 💳
  • Pulley
  • Rippling
  • Cube

YOUR MISSION:

  • Keep our financial engine running smoothly across hundreds of art investment vehicles
  • Lead preparation of SEC annual and semi-annual reports (1-K and 1-SA reports)
  • Execute monthly/quarterly/annual closes with precision
  • Maintain the systems our accounting-developer hybrid team built
  • Find ways to make everything more efficient
  • Be the reliable backbone that keeps our financial reporting accurate

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 2-4 years experience in accounting, finance, or operations
  • Must work from our NYC office, 5 days a week
  • Experience with NetSuite strongly preferred
  • Experience with financial statement preparation
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles (obviously)
  • Comfort with technology and willingness to learn new systems
  • Must be eligible to work in the US

THE MASTERWORKS ADVANTAGE:

  • Work with a $1B+ art portfolio (pretty cool conversation starter, no offense to B2B SaaS)
  • Daily catered lunches (we're not savages)
  • Health, dental, vision, FSA options
  • PTO and 401k
  • Museum/gallery access
  • Equinox discount
  • Team events that don't suck

HOW DOES MASTERWORKS THINK ABOUT COMPENSATION?

The compensation range for the role is $70,000 - $120,000 (inclusive only of base salary, and exclusive of other potential competitive benefits such as on-target commission, bonus payments, and equity). Our ranges are broad to accommodate all types of candidates and encourage growth. Specific compensation offered to a candidate may be dependent on factors such as education, experience, qualifications, and alignment with market data. Exceptional candidates may receive salaries outside of the posted ranges.

THE BOTTOM LINE:

We need a reliable accounting operator who appreciates systems but doesn't need to build everything from scratch. You'll be working with a lean team where your contribution matters daily. If you're that perfect blend of accounting nerd and tech enthusiast, we want to talk.
