Strategy Director

Position: Freelance

About the Role

Movement Strategy is seeking a Freelance Strategy Director to provide strategic leadership within a Pod while contributing cross-Pod expertise at a senior level. In this role, you will lead the development of business, brand, social, content, and communications strategy — while also acting as a senior strategic partner to other Pods, Strategy leadership, and agency stakeholders.

As a Strategy Director, you bring deep experience in brand-level strategy, insights development, social strategy, annual planning, measurement frameworks, consumer research, and creative partnership. You will drive strategic excellence within your Pod while supporting multi-Pod initiatives, senior-level client conversations, pitch leadership, and the long-term growth of the Strategy discipline at Movement.

What You'll Do

  • Strategic Leadership Lead Pod-level strategy from brief to execution — owning brand strategy, social strategy, annual planning, and communications strategy with a clear point of view and the experience to back it up.
  • Cross-Pod & Senior Partnership Show up as a senior thought partner across Pods, Strategy leadership, and agency stakeholders. Contribute to pitch leadership, multi-Pod initiatives, and discipline-level growth conversations.
  • Data-Driven Planning & Innovation Set the standard for integrating social listening, analytics, and cultural intelligence into strategic development. You have a deep understanding of marketing data and business analytics — and you know how to translate complex data requests into clear, actionable insights that guide creative direction, optimize campaigns, and shape performance reporting. You'll drive innovation by identifying and operationalizing new methodologies and ways of working to deliver best-in-class reporting and data usage.
  • Creative Partnership Collaborate closely with creative leads to ensure strategy fuels — not constrains — the work. You know how to be a creative partner, not just a strategic gatekeeper.
  • Consumer Research & Insights Develop sharp, culturally grounded insights that move beyond surface-level data. You know how to listen to audiences, synthesize what matters, and turn research into strategy that resonates.

What You Bring

  • Senior-level experience in brand and social strategy, ideally within an agency environment
  • Proven ability to lead strategy on complex, multi-channel accounts
  • Fluency in social listening tools, analytics platforms, and measurement frameworks
  • Comfort pulling and presenting data in ways that are digestible, decision-driving, and creatively inspiring
  • Experience leading pitches and senior client conversations with confidence
  • A collaborative, innovative mindset — you're always looking for smarter ways to work

Movement Strategy is an Equal Opportunity Employer

Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply for jobs unless they check every single box. Movement Strategy is dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive workplace and strongly encourages those from historically and systemically marginalized communities to apply.

We believe that what we put out into the world matters. And since we were founded on the principles of paving our own path, we take bold steps toward what we believe is the right direction. This means addressing the big stuff: the systems of inequality that impact some of us far more than others. As culture creators, we firmly believe we have a responsibility to our colleagues, clients, communities, and the industry to live up to the Movement’s name. We confront inequities head-on as they come, knowing that this work is never done and that we must keep the momentum.
