Substation Project Engineer, Physical

We are seeking a Substation Project Engineer; focused on physical design. This person will be responsible for the detailed engineering and design of high-voltage substations ranging from 12kV to 500kV. This role involves creating physical layouts, technical drawings, and specifications while ensuring compliance with industry standards and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Design & Documentation:

Develop substation physical layouts including general arrangements, elevation views, and section drawings.

Create and review one-line, three-line, grounding, conduit, and cable tray drawings.

Prepare bills of materials, equipment specifications, and design calculations (e.g., grounding, bus sizing, cable sizing).

Project Execution:

Lead or support substation physical design projects from concept through construction.

Coordinate with internal teams (CAD technicians, designers, engineers) and external stakeholders (clients, contractors).

Perform quality control checks and ensure adherence to scope, schedule, and budget.

Technical Expertise:

Apply knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE, ANSI, and NEMA standards.

Conduct grounding studies, lightning protection, and lighting studies.

Utilize engineering software tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, and ETAP.

Collaboration & Communication:

Interface with clients and team members to ensure project alignment.

Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and designers.

Participate in design reviews and client meetings.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.

PE license preferred.

3–8+ years of experience in substation physical design.

Strong understanding of power delivery systems and substation components.
