The Project Manager oversees multiple client-based projects, manages design teams, and communicates with stakeholders to execute strategic business plans.
The Project Manager is responsible for managing several client-based projects or company initiatives simultaneously while implementing established processes to achieve the business strategy set forth by the company. The project manager will oversee design teams and directly manage associate project managers, schedulers, and project coordinators. The Project Manager acts as a conduit to the Chief Operating Officer, Leadership Team, Director(s) and Portfolio manager when developing, monitoring, or reporting on the implementation of strategic approaches within the overall projects being managed.

- Inspires confidence, provides direction, and a calming presence to internal/ external teams under pressure.
- Ability to manage up. Provides input, and supporting data, to the Directors and Leadership teams to make strategic business decisions.
- Ability to manage down. Provides direction, process and data to project teams and direct reports to win support and buy-in of the Company’s strategic business plan.
- Ability to manage external clients and stakeholders in a manner that supports the Company’s marketing and strategic plans.
- Supports the implementation of objectives, policies, and procedures, with the ability to course correct to exploit additional opportunities uncovered or mitigate to correct a lack of success.
- Manages the performance of individual projects, project teams and direct reports through goal setting, frequent group meetings, individual PMIs, peer reviews, or lessons learned amongst others.
- Observes, monitors, reports, and communicates on the success of each project and project team using multiple means (lessons learned, data, reviews, surveys, meetings). This information will be shared with company leadership routinely.
- Communication
- With internal stakeholders to understand, champion, and implement processes to meet the objectives of the company’s strategic business plan.
- With external stakeholders to understand and implement process changes to meet the client, company, and individual department objectives.
- With internal and external project teams to make sure that the client and project needs are being met in an advantageous way for both parties. The project manager is always looking to build partnerships.
- Frequently solicits internal and external input through multiple streams (360 reviews, surveys, meetings) from stakeholders, reviews the results, and implements the results strategically.
- Results Driven
- Establishes goals, metrics, and success criteria for project teams and direct reports. Continuously checks in through multiple platforms and course corrects where necessary to meet changing demands.
- Cultivates and interprets project data to support/ contradict the strategic business and department plans and objectives established. This data will be frequently communicated to the company leadership.
- Manages project profitability, understands which variables drive profits, and institutes change to capture profits. This data will be frequently communicated to the company leadership.
- Manages project risk, understands how to identify, quantify and mitigate/ exploit risk, and institutes change to manage risk. This data will be frequently communicated to the company leadership.
- Manages project change, works with internal/ external stakeholders to mitigate/ exploit the risks presented by change.
- Manages project cash flows, and their effect on business cash flows. Uses management tools to adjust cash flows to meet business needs.
- Manages project billing, including aged accounts receivable and unbilled. Works with internal/ external stakeholders to find resolution.
- Manages the implementation of the company quality program on their projects, captures lessons learned, and uses the data for continuous improvement.
- Develops and manages client KPI’s and their impacts on each project.
- Reviews and understands MS agreements and project contracts and provides feedback/ interpretation during the negotiation and execution phases of projects to support continuous improvement and help shape future contracts.
- Reviews and understands billing rates and terms. Works with our leadership team and clients to negotiate and exploit advantageous billing rates and terms.
- Understands multiple contract delivery methods (T&M, Milestone, PWP). Works with our leadership team and clients to negotiate and exploit advantageous delivery methods.
- Strategic/ Critical Thinking
- Uses project scope and schedule data to create project schedules and resource loaded plans across projects. Identifies and communicates resource availability and training gaps and works with People and Culture to mitigate the gaps.
- Uses project financial data to make informed decisions, mitigate/realize risks, and efficiently manage resources. Understands business financial analysis, what drives business success, how to define and measure success, and how to be agile to course correct to maximize the success.
- Understands how to leverage client contacts for further (and timely) business, how to cross-sell other departments and partners, and create a true partnership with clients.
- Supports the Business Development team by driving proposal excellence. Provides feedback on strategic fit during Go/No-Go and drives development from receipt through submittal.
- Relationships
- Develops relationships at all levels of the company, across all lines. The project manager will transcend the traditional department hierarchy to develop and exploit relationships as required to meet project needs. The project manager will act as a mentor in some cases, and a mentee in others.
- Develops strong relationships with direct reports through consistent, quality communication. The goal is to develop trust and create a work environment where direct reports feel heard, challenged, and secure.
- Builds, maintains, and expands new and existing client relationships while looking to develop long term partnerships. Works with the leadership and business development teams to strategically identify and develop advantageous relationships, while also identifying and correcting the non-advantageous ones.
- Participates in industry conferences, working groups and seminars with an emphasis on networking and expanding the company’s client base, while keeping an eye out for strategic hires.
- Harnesses the power of social media to network and expand the company’s client base, while keeping an eye out for strategic hires.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, engineering, construction management, or related field, preferred.
- A mix of education and additional experience is acceptable in lieu of bachelor’s degree.
Experience
- 5-7 years of design experience in Power Delivery projects.
- 2-3 years of project management experience in Transmission Line or Substations
Certifications/Licenses
- PMP Certification, preferred.
- Proficiency in MS Platforms (Project, Word, Excel, PowerBI, PowerPoint) preferred.
- Proficiency in Primavera P6 preferred.
- Proficiency in Deltek software (VantagePoint) preferred.
