Vox is seeking a supervising producer, with experience covering the political process, to lead the development and launch of a new politically-focused video podcast. This role will oversee show development and lead production teams, collaborating with the host talent and Vox editorial leaders to shepherd content from pitch to launch. You will act as both a creative developer and as a showrunner, ensuring editorial excellence, as you shape the weekly show’s unique visual and conceptual identity.

The ideal candidate has experience building standout digital video shows, is an ardent consumer of online creator content, understands how to build brands around talent, and knows how to develop programming strategies tailored for YouTube, podcasts, and other digital-first platforms. Prior hands-on experience in technical video production is strongly preferred, as you will provide detailed creative and technical feedback to production teams in creating compelling and visually dynamic shows.

This role will be based in New York City, and will be a hybrid role that will require in-office work.

To apply, please submit a cover letter clearly outlining how your skills and experience meet or exceed the key candidate requirements. Include links to 3-5 videos that demonstrate your ability to produce original digital video shows and podcasts.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
  • Partner with host and editorial stakeholders to develop, pilot and launch a new video podcast, serving as both a creative consultant and a production leader.
  • Produce longform video episodes weekly for platforms like YouTube, ensuring strong editorial, dynamic visuals, and high production value across remote, in-studio, and hybrid formats.
  • In collaboration with the host and Vox editorial leaders, conceptualize episode segments, research bookings, and report out topical conversation themes to ensure editorial integrity and fact-based analysis.
  • Identify platform-native shortform video content optimized for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts—translating strong podcast moments into compelling visual stories.
  • In collaboration with the Art Director, design and implement scalable visual elements (motion graphics, captions, lower-thirds, thumbnails, etc.) that align with the show’s tone and target platform.
  • Manage multiple projects at various stages of production in a fast-paced setting; this role will require strong organizational and time-management skills to deliver high-quality results efficiently and on deadline.
  • Manage and mentor freelance editors and designers, assigning work, giving creative feedback, and ensuring brand consistency and quality across deliverables.
  • Write and edit scripts in collaboration with the host and show team.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with editorial, social, and audience teams to ensure shows reach their target audience.
  • Stay current on visual and social trends across the podcast and digital media landscape, offering insights and ideas that help shows reach their target audiences and stand out from their competitive set.
  • Adhere to all journalistic and legal standards at all times.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.
WHO YOU ARE

We’re looking for a creative, enthusiastic supervising producer with a passion for Vox’s explanatory mission. You’ll have:

  • 7+ years of experience in digital video production, with a track record of success creating editorial or creator-driven content for social and streaming platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce both longform and shortform video content, especially for talk-based or interview-driven formats.
  • A passion for Vox’s mission of helping audiences understand what really matters.
  • Experience covering politics, policy and the political process.
  • An established record of deep research, reporting, scripting and high-quality studio and field production.
  • Expert-level understanding of Adobe Suite, with a high-level of expertise in Premiere and knowledge of After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Familiarity with vertical video editing tools such as Capcut, Descript.
  • Strong creative instincts combined with technical production fluency—you’ve been in the weeds of video production and understand how to coordinate with teams on lighting/set pieces, editing, and post-production.
  • Experience managing freelancers or vendors, and clear creative direction that ensures timely, high-quality delivery.
  • Excellent editorial instincts and scriptwriting ability, with a knack for shaping pacing, tone, and story arc, especially in host-driven formats.
  • Strong communication, organizational and time-management skills, as well as, attention to detail.
  • Collaborative team player who will enjoy working across the organization.
  • A deep understanding of video platform ecosystems (YouTube, TikTok, Reels), including what drives performance, how users engage, and what makes shows grow.

If you think you have what it takes, but don't meet every single point in our job posting, please apply with a cover letter to let us know how you believe you can bring your unique skills to the Vox Media team or get in touch! We’ve hired chefs who became editors, DJs who became UX designers, and sommeliers who became writers.
