Supervises, plans, organizes and evaluates laboratory support operations and staff including, but not limited to, Central Processing, Phlebotomy, and Inventory. Communicates with customers and staff; ensures quality outcomes. Maintains equipment and information systems needs.
Job Responsibility
- Promotes Clinical Laboratory Support department goals by selecting, motivating, and training capable team members.
- Leads the activities of assigned Clinical Laboratory Support team members by communicating and providing guidance toward achieving department objectives.
- Supervises and coordinates the daily operations of the central processing and phlebotomy sections of the laboratory.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates approved operations and procedures to achieve department and service line strategic goals and objectives.
- Ensures laboratory management approval and staff review, and documents changes and updates, in accordance with the document control policy.
- Organizes, assigns, and directs work activities of the phlebotomy and accessioning staff.
- Maintains supply of specimen collection equipment and supplies, and office supplies via inventory control and management to support operational needs.
- Ensures storage, retrieval, and disposal of specimens, contaminated sharps, and bio-hazardous waste in accordance with procedures.
- Plans and coordinates sections’ quality improvement initiatives.
- Recommends and implements approved performance improvement monitors and benchmarks for departmental quality improvement initiatives, and engages staff in quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensures laboratory preparedness for audits/inspections and keeps informed of state and federal regulations.

Job Qualification
- Associate's Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- 4-6 years of relevant experience and 0-2 years of leadership / management experience, required.
