Our client, a leading investment management, is seeking a talented Systems Engineer to join our team in New York City. As a Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the stability, security, and efficiency of our IT infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 2nd and 3rd-level support, resolving complex technical issues and liaising with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution.
  • Manage and monitor all installed systems and infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and availability.
  • Install, configure, test, and maintain operating systems, application software, and system management tools.
  • Ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability through continuous monitoring and optimization.
  • Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and collaborate with developers to implement fixes.
  • Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies to protect against cybersecurity threats and data loss.
  • Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and automate routine tasks, reducing human intervention time.
  • Participate in the design of information and operational support systems to meet business requirements.

Required Experience

  • 4+ years of systems engineering experience in an enterprise environment.
  • 2+ years of desktop support experience, preferably in a financial services environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated ability to walk users through resolutions.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting UNIX/Linux-based environments.
  • Performance tuning of application stacks (e.g., Tomcat, JBoss, Apache, Ruby, NGINX).
  • Experience with monitoring systems to ensure system health and performance.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of automation software (e.g., Puppet, CFEngine, Chef) to streamline operations.
  • Solid scripting skills (e.g., shell scripts, Perl, Ruby, Python) for task automation and system management.
  • Thorough networking knowledge (OSI network layers, TCP/IP) to troubleshoot network-related issues effectively.

Preferred Experience

  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related subject.
