Working with BPM means using your experiences, broadening your skills, and reaching your full potential—while making a positive difference for clients, colleagues, and communities. Our shared entrepreneurial spirit drives us to see and do things differently. Our passion for people makes BPM a place where everyone feels welcome, valued, and part of something bigger. Because People Matter

You will serve as a senior advisor to nonprofit clients (public charities, private foundations, associations, hospitals/health systems, schools, cultural institutions, and international NGOs), ensuring technical excellence in tax compliance and consulting while advancing practice growth, team development, and client experience.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead compliance for complex exempt‑organization filings, including Forms 990/990‑PF/990‑T, related schedules (e.g., A, K, R), state filings, and multi‑jurisdictional requirements; oversee quality reviews and risk management.
  • Advise on UBIT/UBTI analyses, structuring of program‑related investments (PRIs), joint ventures, partnerships/LLCs, and alternative investments; design policies to mitigate tax risk.
  • Guide exemption matters (e.g., Forms 1023/1024, reorganizations, public‑support tests, private‑foundation excise tax, Chapter 42 concerns) and handle IRS/state controversy support.
  • Partner with audit/advisory teams on tax topics connected to financing, bond compliance, endowments, contributed‑revenue models, and grant/award implications.
  • Drive client experience and growth: scope and price engagements, lead proposals and thought leadership, cultivate C‑suite/board relationships, and develop industry eminence.
  • Lead and coach managers/seniors/associates; set clear expectations, deliver timely feedback, build training content, and champion inclusion and belonging across the team.
  • Contribute to practice leadership: refine methodologies, strengthen workflows, and advance data/automation in the NFP tax practice.
  •  Champion sustainable workplace practices by supporting remote-first operations, promoting paperless workflows through digital collaboration tools, participating in recycling initiatives to minimize paper use, and consistently demonstrate alignment with BPM’s values.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Credentials: CPA or EA (required). MS‑Tax or JD/LLM preferred.
  • Experience: 10+ years in exempt‑organization tax with progressive leadership; deep hands‑on expertise with 990/990‑PF/990‑T, UBIT, public‑support tests, private‑foundation rules, and multi‑state filings; controversy experience a plus.
  • Technical Excellence: authoritative knowledge of IRC sections applicable to exempt orgs, partnership taxation as it relates to NFP investments, and state/local requirements; strong research, writing, and review skills.
  • Leadership & Business Development: visible leadership in practice initiatives; ability to take on larger/more complex clients, run engagements end‑to‑end, meet economic goals, and coach/develop staff; active community involvement aligned with our values.
  • Client Influence: executive presence with boards, finance committees, and senior management; clear communication of complex tax concepts to non‑tax audiences.
  • Tools: proficiency with leading tax software/workflow platforms; comfort with data/automation to enhance efficiency and insights

BPM Offers:

  • Balance & Flexibility: 14 firm holidays (including 2 floating), Flex PTO, paid family leave, winter break, summer hours, and remote work options.
  • Total Rewards: personalized benefits, including 401(k) employer match; multiple medical, dental, vision offerings with up to 90% employer‑paid premiums; and pet insurance.
