Stantec is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Technical Editor to contribute to our Document Support team housed within the Environmental Services division. The successful candidate will edit documents such as technical reports, publications, and proposals for grammar, clarity and comprehension, appropriate style, consistent voice, and acronym and reference usage. Additionally, the successful candidate will format deliverables with consistently applied Word styles to meet company documentation standards or client-specific guidelines and will, toward the conclusion of the document production process, remediate PDFs to comply with Section 508/accessibility policies. Our team is highly collaborative, fast-paced, and geographically diverse. A team-first mentality along with hard work, flexibility, exceptional customer service, and personal accountability are the keys to our success.
Your Key Responsibilities

- Edit technical documents including National Environmental Policy Act studies and reports, biological reports, cultural resources reports, and permit applications, among other deliverables.
- Assist with the preparation of proposals and other business development work products, such as memos, fact sheets, PowerPoints, and emails.
- Remediate public-facing documents published by federal and state agencies for Section 508/accessibility compliance using specialized software (CommonLook).
- Provide technical editing support to project managers; ensure consistency of work products across clients and programs.
- Responsible for quality control, production, and distribution of documents in accordance with schedules.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Excellent written communication skills, including an expert-level knowledge of English grammar.
- High proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (primarily Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
- Organizational skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work.
- Proactive approach to problem solving, including a self-starter attitude.
- Familiarity with different style guides, such as Chicago and APA, and the ability to implement client-specific protocols for technical editing while incorporating company stylistic standards.
- Must demonstrate the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment and possess flexibility when juggling numerous projects simultaneously in a rapidly changing environment.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, history, or a similar writing-intensive discipline—or a bachelor’s degree in a scientific field such as environmental science or biology—and at least 3 years of editorial experience; this experience can include internships and part-time roles so long as they featured writing/editing as a core component of the position. A master’s degree in a writing-intensive, research-focused field and prior editorial experience with an environmental or AEC firm are preferred.
- Familiarity with policies and practices related to U.S. accessibility compliance, including the willingness to learn specialized software (CommonLook) to remediate documents in Word and/or PDF.
