This is a Principal Software Engineering position at the Vice President level, which is part of the job family responsible for developing and maintaining software solutions that support business needs.

This role is part of the Wealth Management Monitoring Technology (WMMT) Department within Non-Financial Risk Technology (NFRT). WMMT provides solutions to monitor customer suitability, FA sales practice, Digital Direct channel activity and Conduct Risk for the Firm's Wealth Management business. Non-Financial Risk Technology provides operational controls, support for sustainable investing, business continuity planning, and surveillance capabilities to enhance the firm's resilience to threats and fraudulent behavior.

What you’ll do in the role:

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of technology solutions that align with WMMT Program objectives, overseeing teams and squads by integrating project management and agile development practices.

  • Collaborate with WM Risk, WM Compliance, product, and engineering teams to define and execute the Technology Roadmap and design supervisory controls to manage business risk and ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.

  • Coordinate with peers to manage the pipeline for WM Risk and Compliance initiatives, guiding projects through all stages from discovery and planning to implementation.

  • Engage with subject matter experts, developers, scrum masters, and product owners by actively participating in planning sessions, daily sprints, story refinement, reviews, and retrospectives.

  • Deliver technical and client-facing support, including providing expertise to Litigation for discovery processes and supporting team members in resolving project-impacting issues.

  • Manage project delivery timelines, risks, and dependencies across concurrent workstreams, ensuring high-quality execution with attention to detail and strict adherence to governance standards.

  • Communicate effectively with senior stakeholders by translating complex technical concepts into actionable business insights and serving as an escalation point for project-related queries.

  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and accountability within the delivery team.

  • Lead and participate in analyzing and interpreting business requirements, facilitating further information gathering when necessary to ensure precision and clarity in project requirements and effective technical solutions.

  • Develop and maintain expert knowledge of the WM Risk (1L) and Compliance (2L) Supervisory and Oversight platform, supporting technical inquiries from clients and internal partners, while sustaining advanced understanding of WM product offerings and regulatory implementations.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • Strong understanding of Wealth Management domain

  • 10+ years of experience in technology delivery with at least 5+ years in the Wealth Management domain

  • Strong analytical, attention-to-detail, and problem-solving skills.

  • Understanding of Technology & software design; ability to partner with technical architect and design/develop solutions

  • Proven success working in highly collaborative, team-centric environments

  • Experience with agile methodologies and environments

  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and problem-solving skills

  • Effective investigative and analytical skills

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced and evolving environment which includes ongoing learning and training opportunities.

  • Strategic problem solver who quickly identifies strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for efficiencies to deliver immediate and long-term improvements.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities, satisfy agreed deadlines, and deliver high-quality solutions.

Preferred skills

  • High level understanding of FRB, SEC and FINRA regulations, with a focus on sales practice, misconduct and suitability concerns around retail products in brokerage and advisory accounts.

  • Working knowledge of Futures, FX, Annuities, Structured Investments, Alternative Investments, Exchange-Trades Products, Fixed Income, Equities, Options, Unit Investment Trusts and Mutual Funds.

  • Ability to deliver feedback to others in ways that result in positive outcomes

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $155,000 and $215,000 per year at the commencement of employment.  However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
