Senior Technical Product Manager – Group Insurance Platform

Reports To: Group Product Manager
About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Technical Product Manager to lead the development and evolution of our group insurance administration platform. This suite is critical to our strategy, enabling seamless integrations with external benefits administration systems, simplifying benefits enrollment for our customers, and supporting diverse billing models. You will play a key role in shaping the future of how our customers interact with their benefits, driving innovation and delivering exceptional user experiences. This role requires a unique blend of technical acumen, strategic thinking, understanding of the group insurance landscape, and exceptional problem-solving and negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Define and champion the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for the digital benefits product suite, aligning with overall company objectives. This includes presenting and defending the roadmap to senior leadership and influencing investment decisions.
  • Lead the entire product lifecycle from ideation, through development, launch, and post-launch optimization. This includes conducting market analysis, defining MVPs, iterating based on user feedback, and managing the full product lifecycle.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, UX/UI, marketing, sales, and customer success teams to ensure successful product delivery and adoption. Building strong relationships with cross-functional teams and effectively communicating product requirements and updates is critical for this role.
  • Proactively identify and analyze complex problems, breaking them down into smaller, manageable components. Develop and evaluate potential solutions, considering trade-offs and recommending the best course of action.
  • Conduct thorough market research, competitive analysis, and customer needs assessments to identify opportunities and inform product decisions.
  • Prioritize and manage the product backlog, defining user stories and acceptance criteria ensuring that it is aligned with the product roadmap and business priorities.
  • Effectively negotiate with stakeholders across different departments to align on product priorities and roadmap. Facilitate discussions to resolve conflicts and build consensus, ensuring that the roadmap reflects the needs of the business and its customers.
  • Deeply understand the technical landscape of benefits administration systems, integrations (APIs, data exchange), and billing models. You will be expected to engage in technical discussions with engineers and architects, understanding the implications of technical decisions on the product roadmap.
  • Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure product success and identify areas for improvement. This includes defining relevant metrics, analyzing data, and presenting findings to stakeholders.
  • Communicate product updates and roadmaps effectively to stakeholders at all levels while tailoring communication to different audiences, from technical teams to executive leadership.
  • Delegate, guide and mentor junior team members, as applicable to assist with the above activities by sharing best practices, providing feedback, and supporting their professional development.

Required Skills & Experience (Essential)

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience as a technical product manager.
  • Proven experience with group insurance administration software or equivalent experience working on the business side with similar business processes (e.g., benefits enrollment, claims processing, billing).
  • Deep understanding of benefits administration, enrollment processes, and billing models in the insurance industry.
  • Strategic Thinking: Demonstrated ability to develop and champion product strategies aligned with business goals.
  • Product Vision & Roadmap: Proven track record of defining and managing complex product roadmaps.
  • Prioritization & Execution: Expertise in prioritizing across multiple teams and initiatives, delivering high-quality products on time and within budget.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Data Analysis & Metrics: Strong analytical skills and experience using data to inform product decisions.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and solve complex product challenges.
  • Negotiation & Influence: Demonstrated ability to negotiate effectively with stakeholders and build consensus.
  • Strong understanding of software development methodologies (Agile, Scrum).
  • Familiarity with API integrations and data exchange protocols.
  • Ability to understand and discuss technical concepts with engineers.
  • Ability to work remote (excluding the following states: MA, CA, WA, HI, AK, CO, CT, MT, NY, NJ)

Education

Must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience (One-year relevant experience is equivalent to one-year college) - preferred
  • Associate’s Degree in a Technical Field
  • Certification in relevant focus area

Additional Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Prior experience integrating with one or more benefits administration platforms such as Workday, Benefitfocus, Employee Navigator, bswift, PlanSource, Zenefits
