Powerhouse Arts is a not-for-profit organization committed to creative expression. Housed in a purpose-built-facility in Brooklyn, the organization hosts an extended network of art and fabrication professionals and educators who work together to co-create and share artistic practices vital to the well-being of artists and the communities to which they serve. Our facilities house fabrication services, production services, production spaces, and member workshops for artisans. In 2025, PHA welcomed thousands of patrons as the building became a center for art and performance.

As the organization continues to grow and expand its impact, PHA is seeking a Tech Services Director to lead all technology functions for the nonprofit. This role will ensure that PHA’s digital infrastructure, systems, and tools empower staff, collaborators, and members of the artist community to do their best work.

This role provides strategic vision and leadership, guiding how technology supports creativity, collaboration, and operational excellence across the organization.  The ideal candidate will bring technical leadership experience from a contemporary art, performance, membership-based, or similar non-profit to operate at a senior, organization-wide level, supporting a diverse group of stakeholders.  They will bring a genuine interest in collaborating with leadership, fundraisers, artists, fabricators and makers, curators, learning and engagement teams, event producers, and facility leaders.  A core requirement of this role is the ability to skillfully balance competing needs and priorities while delivering practical solutions on time and within budget. The successful candidate will be someone who is connected to (or has the ability to connect to) other arts organizations (especially in NYC) and can bring insights from outside PHA around best practices and key vendors.

Responsibilities:

Tech Services Leadership

  • Oversee all IT/Tech operations, including network management, infrastructure, business systems use, and systems administration
  • Provide strategic leadership, guidance and support for internal Tech Services team member(s) and external partners (MSP, consultants, vendors) to deliver consistent, high-quality support
  • Partner with teams across PHA to understand their technical needs, and to identify pain points and opportunities where technology can streamline process, enhance efficiency, accessibility, and creativity
  • Establish and uphold standards, documentation, and tech governance policies and procedures for systems, integrations, and data management
  • Manage implementation, training, and ongoing enablement to build confidence and adoption across teams.
  • Collaborate with Finance on IT budgeting, forecasting, and resource planning.
  • Champion thoughtful change management to ensure technology transitions are smooth, inclusive, and mission aligned.
  • Ensure technology decisions consider security, compliance, scalability, and total cost of ownership
  • Communicate clearly with non-technical stakeholders, aligning expectations, timelines, and outcomes
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on technology risk, investment, and innovation
  • Serve as a manager to the tech team (comprised of employees and external vendors)

Business Solutions & Systems Architecture

  • Guide the organization’s digital strategy by defining Powerhouse Arts’ application roadmap and long-term data automation vision
  • Own the organization’s technology and IT roadmap, ensuring systems evolve in step with organizational growth and priorities, and remain connected, coordinated and part of a single solution set
  • Serve as the strategic partner to department leaders, translating business goals into scalable, secure, and sustainable technology solutions
  • Lead requirements gathering and discovery with stakeholders to understand workflows, constraints, and desired outcomes before solutioning
  • Design and oversee systems architecture across applications, infrastructure, integrations, and data flows to support organizational needs
  • Evaluate, select, and implement technology solutions aligned to business use cases, cost, risk, and long-term strategy
  • Advise the organization on security issues and implement ways to protect the organization from potential hacks and other IT-related risks

Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of progressive experience in IT/Tech leadership or technology services management.
  • Minimum 5 years working in nonprofit organizations, with the ability to balance innovation, mission alignment, and cost-efficiency.
  • Proven success leading complex projects under tight timelines and evolving priorities.
  • Exceptional communication, documentation, and collaboration skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into meaningful solutions for diverse stakeholders.
  • A commitment to creativity, problem-solving, and building systems that strengthen Powerhouse Arts’ mission and community.
  • Familiarity with enterprise SaaS systems including, but not limited to, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Box, Zoom, Slack, Zoom, Box, Adobe Creative Cloud, Asana, Okta, 1Password, Wix, Shopify, MDM Tools

Compensation & Benefits: Salary range is $125-135k and commensurate with experience. Benefits include health insurance, an employer-sponsored retirement plan, generous paid vacation, and a Citibike membership.
