About your team:

At Centrica Energy, our mission is to move it.

We’re energy movers by nature. We’re a global renewable energy trading company which helps move energy from source to use – powering businesses, homes, and societies as they transition to a new sustainable energy future. If the idea of working to create a sustainable energy future also moves you, we may very well be the right place for you.

We are seeking an exceptionally reliable, detail‑oriented Trading Contracts Manager with a strong work ethic and a proven commitment to meeting deadlines. This role requires a trusted self‑starter who delivers on commitments, adapts quickly as priorities shift, and serves as a central knowledge holder on complex, time‑sensitive matters. The position sits at the intersection of trading, legal, and operations, partnering closely with traders, legal counsel, and decentralized back‑office teams to drive matters efficiently to resolution.

Salary range for this position:  $140,000 - $170,000/Year. Actual base salary may vary based several factors, including, but not limited to, relevant experience, business needs and market demands. This role may also be eligible for bonus compensation and employee benefits.

About the role

The Trading Contracts Manager is responsible for managing the day‑to‑day commercial contracting needs of the U.S. trading business. The role includes coordinating internal stakeholder input (credit, tax, finance, legal), synthesizing and assessing feedback, and working closely with Legal to negotiate and finalize trading agreements with counterparties. Success in this role requires strong judgment, commercial pragmatism, and the ability to pivot quickly while maintaining ownership and continuity across matters.

The position is based in New York, NY (near Grand Central) and operates on a hybrid schedule (three days per week in the office).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own assigned trading contract matters end to end, ensuring timely and accurate execution, consistent follow‑through on commitments, and clear communication of executed agreements to relevant internal teams and systems.

  • Review, analyze, and redline trading‑related legal documentation (including master agreements, confirmations, amendments, and guarantees), providing substantive input and commentary to Legal and Credit.

  • Coordinate onboarding, negotiation, and execution workflows with traders, Legal, Credit, Finance, Tax, Compliance, Operations, Risk, and external counterparties to minimize iteration and accelerate resolution.

  • Rapidly assess, prioritize, and re‑prioritize work in response to urgent or “hot” trading needs while maintaining control over existing deliverables.

  • Identify legal, operational, and contractual risks early, escalating issues with clear, practical, and solutions‑oriented recommendations.

  • Serve as the primary subject matter expert for designated agreements and counterparties, maintaining institutional knowledge, continuity, and oversight.

  • Support the development, maintenance, and auditability of standard trading documentation and complete contract files in partnership with Legal, reflecting evolving legal, business, and market developments.

About You

The ideal candidate brings a strong sense of ownership and acts with integrity, reliability, and accountability in everything they do. They remain calm under pressure, adapt quickly to changing priorities, and take a solutions‑oriented approach when navigating complexity. Trusted by stakeholders across the business, they combine sound judgment with the confidence to challenge constructively and balance commercial and risk considerations. The ideal candidate has:

  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability, with a demonstrated record of meeting deadlines.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast‑paced trading environment and pivot seamlessly as urgencies arise.

  • Comfort acting as the sole or primary knowledge holder on complex or long‑running matters.

  • Sound judgment with the confidence to challenge assumptions, drive prioritization, and balance legal risk with commercial needs.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the credibility to engage front‑office professionals and control‑function partners.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively across decentralized teams and multiple locations.

In addition to these core capabilities, experience gained in comparable environments and contexts will be considered an advantage. Candidates who bring hands‑on exposure to trading‑related work and cross‑functional collaboration will be particularly well‑placed to succeed. It would be an advantage to have:

  • Experience working in a fast‑paced, lean, and cross‑functional environment

  • Hands‑on experience reviewing and redlining trading documentation (e.g. MSPAs, confirmations, framework agreements, NDAs, guarantees)

  • Comfort engaging directly with legal counsel and contributing business‑focused input to negotiations

  • Familiarity with trading workflows, transaction lifecycles, and post‑trade processes

  • Experience supporting or partnering closely with front office and control function stakeholders
