The Role:

Blue Owl’s Alternative Credit (or “Alt Credit”) team targets investments in markets underserved by traditional lenders and the broader capital markets, with deep expertise investing across specialty finance, private corporate credit and equipment leasing. We are looking for an attorney focused on private credit and private equity investments under this strategy.

Responsibilities:

  • Transaction counsel responsibilities:
    • Manage multiple parallel transactions on a fast-paced high-performing investment team;
    • Counsel deal teams on regulatory and risk considerations specific to transactions across diverse markets and asset types;
    • Support diligence process and identify potential transaction risks ensuring risks are appropriately reflected in transaction underwriting;
    • Partner with deal teams, tax, compliance, and other Blue Owl departments to structure and execute transactions; and
    • Manage the legal documentation process, including the preparation of term sheets and the negotiation of definitive legal documents for a wide range of asset based finance deals, including rediscount facilities, forward flow purchases, aviation finance and credit card finance.
  • Alt Credit team counsel responsibilities:  
    • Advise team leadership and fund portfolio managers on platform risks; and
    • Identify emerging opportunities created by changing regulatory environments.
  • Legal department responsibilities:
    • Actively manage portfolio of outside counsel across Alt Credit’s transactions;
    • Partner with Alt Credit’s Chief Operating Officer and legal team leadership to develop and implement policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines to both streamline and institutionalize legal tasks and processes across Alt Credit; and
    • Work with Blue Owl legal, compliance, and accounting teams, building camaraderie and supporting collaboration across the organization.

Qualifications:

  • JD required.  Equivalent work experience of at least 5 years in advising the financial services industry at a law firm, in-house position and/or financial services intermediary;
  • Significant structured finance experience required;
  • Commercial approach to the practice of law and transactions in particular;
  • Self-starter who demonstrates a high-level of ownership and drive;
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment; and
  • Collegial and transparent with a high level of integrity.

It is expected that the base annual salary range for this New York based position will be $190,000 - $200,000. Actual salaries may vary based on factors, such as skill, experience, and qualification for the role. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus, based on factors such as individual and team performance.
