Exempt, Contingent II 1.1

Location: Stateside Remote


A Degree Auditor is responsible for the evaluation of a student’s academic records.  The Degree Auditor will process transfer credit from both traditional and non-traditional sources and will also evaluate a learners’ remaining degree requirements as they take credit concurrently or if they change their program or plan. Degree Auditors will work closely with all student-facing teams to ensure that students fully understand degree requirements and time to graduation. They will do this by providing courteous and top-notch customer service.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Guided by existing policies, practices, and procedures to evaluate traditional and non-traditional transfer credit in order to maximize applicable transfer credit.
  • Degree Auditors will ensure accuracy of a student’s program and plan information, course credit applicability, and ensure accuracy of coursework placing on a student’s academic advisement report which provides a pathway to their credential.
  • Demonstrates elevated level written and oral communication skills by communicating professionally and anticipating the needs of the learner and internal staff. Responds promptly to student and advisor questions regarding transfer credit and academic advisement, meeting all currently established SLA deadlines for the department (as specified by the department). Proactively seeks to ensure questions and issues are managed with tact, diplomacy, and integrity by collaborating with advising units to ensure learner needs are being met.
  • Synthesizes incoming transfer credit scenarios specific to discipline or requirement area, program, or in general for potential patterns, issues, or opportunities by collaborating daily with other evaluation staff to obtain opinions and to reach consensus on the transferability of coursework. Recommends to department where additional data or attention might surface new and better ways to serve the student.

  • Demonstrated competency in satisfactory resolution of student and/or customer-initiated questions using resources and tools to deliver accurate and professional responses.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with detailed information from a variety of sources with outstanding accuracy. Ability to organize and prioritize administrative tasks and workflow such that all service level agreements are met.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers via phone, email, chat, and other methods. Demonstrated ability to pivot tasks between detail-oriented work and service-oriented work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently (e.g. by assigning work from a queue to his/herself for completion) and collaboratively with other staff (e.g. discussing the approval or denial of a particular transfer course in a program)    

Skills:

  • The incumbent will be expected to have entry level expertise in change management, diversity, and inclusion, holistic and systems thinking, interpretation and application of institutional and external data, leadership and management, and technical knowledge.  The incumbent will be expected to have intermediate level competence in collaborative decision making, problem solving, professional integrity, and communication. 

Education & Experience Requirements:


Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree

Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a registrar’s office, academic records, graduation services, degree audit, transfer credit, academic advising, admissions operations, or a closely related higher education student services function.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing and interpreting student academic records, including transcripts, transfer credit, test credit, course substitutions, waivers, repeated coursework, academic standing, catalog year requirements, and program/plan requirements.
  • Experience conducting degree audits, graduation reviews, or academic progress evaluations to determine whether students have satisfied institutional, program, general education, residency, credit, GPA, and graduation requirements.

  • Experience in a Registrar’s Office or related higher education student services environment is preferred.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience using student information systems and degree audit tools to review academic records, evaluate student progress, and support graduation clearance or degree conferral processes.
  • Experience with transfer credit evaluation, academic policy interpretation, catalog requirements, substitutions, waivers, exceptions, residency requirements, GPA calculations, and complex student record review is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience providing quality assurance, training, mentoring, process documentation, or workflow improvement support within an academic record, degree audit, graduation services.

  • Generous Time Off: Enjoy 22 days of paid vacation, 15 days of sick leave, 3 personal days, and 16 paid holidays (17 during general election years). Time off rates will be prorated based on the number of hours worked.

Contingent II employees who work on average 30 or more hours per week (130 hours per month) are eligible for subsidized state of Maryland medical and prescription benefits. Contingent II employees who work on average less than 30 hours per week but at least 20 hours per week are eligible for a stipend to assist in the purchase of a health plan.

  • Insurance Options: Term Life Insurance, Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance, and Long-Term Disability (LTD) Insurance. NOTE: C2 Part-time employees working less than 0.5 FTE are not eligible for LTD.

  • Retirement Stipend:  Contingent II employees receive a retirement stipend equal to 7.25 percent of their base salary and are eligible to contribute to a supplemental retirement account (SRA).

  • Supplemental Retirement Plans: include 401(k), 403(b), 457(b), and various Roth options. The university does not provide subsidies or matching funds.

  • Tuition Remission:  CII employees are eligible immediately for Tuition Remission at UMGC or at University of Maryland College Park.  Spouses and dependent children are eligible for undergraduate tuition remission after two years of service. NOTE: For part-time employees (at least 50 percent of the time), tuition remission benefits are prorated.
