Job Description

Great growth opportunity at AECOM for a Vertical Transportation Engineer to join our New York Metro team! This role can be worked from either our NYC, Piscataway or Bloomfield, NJ offices.

The Vertical Transportation Engineer will design, develop, and review drawings and submittals on vertical transportation projects (elevators, escalators, and moving walkways). This professional will adapt and modify design features and operational methods to meet a variety of situations. The selected candidate will have experience performing the following:

  • Working closely with principal and senior designers to assist in the development of Vertical Transport Design.
  • Performing condition assessments and writing reports for Vertical Transportation equipment modernization.
  • Producing drawings and associated reports and assisting with the preparation of vertical transportation project specifications.
  • Inspecting installations and witness testing on site.
  • Developing vertical transportation design concepts, calculating number, size and speed of lifts for all types of buildings including high rise.
  • Designing and providing design feedback for elevators, escalators, and moving walkways. Retrofitting these into existing facilities with very congested existing systems and infrastructure.
  • Producing reports including conceptual design, schematic design, detailed design, and construction documents.
  • There will be travel of up to 5-10% for field assessments. Travel could be anywhere in the US.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree plus four (4) years of experience with vertical transportation or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Due to the nature of this role, United State Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience working with escalators, elevators and moving walkways
  • Be able to design and deliver vertical transport solutions on major and/or complex projects.
  • A strong analytical knowledge and understanding of engineering principles.
  • A desire to work constructively in a team, finding holistic building design solutions in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • The ability to communicate clearly, through sketching, speaking and in writing, with client s and design teams.
  • Proven experience of undertaking vertical Transportation Design, using passenger traffic analysis software where appropriate.
  • Excellent planning, organizational and time management skills, with a proven ability to work under pressure and to meet strict deadlines.
  • Able to understand the balance of engineering priorities on differing projects.
  • Knowledge and experience in utilizing design software including passenger traffic analysis software (ELEVATE), AutoCAD/Microstation, BIM/Revit, Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Must be able to travel up to 5-10% of the time to locations around the United States,
