About the Role

We're looking for a VP of Engineering to lead and grow a team of exceptional engineers, fostering a culture of high performance, innovation, and collaboration. You'll play a critical role in shaping our technical strategy and building systems that will support Rho's growth and scalability for years to come.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and scale a high-performance engineering team (50+), managing day-to-day operations and fostering ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement for technical excellence.
  • Report directly to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), collaborating closely on technical decisions and organizational alignment. 
  • Drive the development, deployment, and maintenance of scalable, reliable, and secure technology solutions, ensuring adherence to best practices in software development, infrastructure management, and quality assurance.
  • Foster a culture of empathy, innovation, and operational excellence, with a focus on delivering user-centric products.
  • Develop and manage team performance objectives, driving the engineering organization's growth and optimizing its structure for scalability and impact.
  • Partner closely with Product, Design, Data, and Operations to ensure engineering efforts drive key business outcomes and strategic priorities.
  • Anticipate technical challenges and proactively lead efforts to address system performance, scalability, and service reliability as the platform grows.
  • Lead quarterly planning sessions to ensure alignment of engineering goals with business objectives and drive high-impact outcomes.
  • Partner with senior leadership to allocate resources effectively, ensuring the team has the right tools, talent, and infrastructure to achieve objectives.
  • Regular travel to Rho's European locations (Belgrade, Serbia or Poland every 8-10 weeks)

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, ideally in industries like fintech or SaaS, with a focus on security, scalability, and reliability.
  • 5+ years of senior leadership experience, including leading teams of 35+ engineers
  • Expertise in designing large-scale, cloud-based systems (AWS, GCP, etc.) and making architectural decisions that scale with business needs.
  • Hands-on programming skills in modern languages (e.g., Python, Java, Go) with an understanding of best practices in code quality and performance.
  • Proven success in delivering complex projects that align with both technical and business goals, meeting deadlines in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong experience in cross-functional collaboration, working closely with Product, Design, and other teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to motivate teams and manage competing priorities.
  • A strategic mindset with a pragmatic approach to balancing innovation with business objectives.

Our people are our most valuable asset. The salary range for this role is $260,000-$340,000 base plus an equity package. Salary may vary depending on relevant experience, skills and business needs. Rho also offers healthcare benefits and paid time off.
