About Alumni Ventures

Alumni Ventures is one of the world’s most active venture capital platforms, with $1.4B+ in assets raised and investments in 1,300+ companies. Our network of 850,000+ members and 40+ dedicated investors connects accredited individuals to high-quality venture deals—typically reserved for institutions—through our alumni-driven communities and diversified co-investment strategy. With offices in Boston, New York, Chicago, Menlo Park, and Manchester, NH, we’re rapidly growing and committed to fueling entrepreneurial success while developing the next generation of VC professionals.

About the Role

We’ve built a strong engine for acquiring venture assets. Our next frontier is elevating portfolio monitoring and building a disciplined, proactive liquidity function. The market for secondary transactions is evolving quickly, and our scale requires greater structure, visibility, and leadership around when and how we return capital.

This senior leader will oversee and drive our overall liquidity strategy, leading the team responsible for monitoring our portfolio, identifying exit pathways, and preparing and evaluating opportunities. While this role is closely involved in transactions, the emphasis is on strategy, governance, prioritization, and team leadership rather than direct execution.

The mandate: bring a more intentional, repeatable, and forward-looking approach to liquidity by bridging our acquisition engine with a stronger, more reliable exit engine.

This is a hybrid role with an expectation of M/T/Th/F in the office.

What You’ll Do

Liquidity Strategy & Execution Oversight

  • Lead the overall liquidity and exit strategy, setting priorities and guiding the team on preparation, structuring options, and recommended pathways.
  • Oversee the sourcing and evaluation of secondary sales and other liquidity routes (e.g., structured solutions, emerging digital or alternative platforms).
  • Maintain a dynamic, ranked pipeline of exit opportunities by company and expected timing.
  • Oversee the “Exit Memo” process; ensuring memos are clear, rigorous, and ready for leadership review.

Portfolio Monitoring

  • Build and refine consistent processes for operating updates, early-warning signals, opportunity windows, and risk flags across the portfolio.
  • Drive systematic review of top positions (the AV (Alumni Ventures) 50): internal valuations, thesis tracking, risk assessments, and refresh cycles.

AV 50 & Valuation Governance

  • Establish and oversee the internal value-setting process for the AV 50, including methodology, cadence, and decision rights.
  • Ensure a high-quality governance process informed by market data, company performance, and internal analysis.

Market Development & Innovation

  • Maintain and deepen relationships with secondary buyers, syndicates, specialty funds, and emerging liquidity platforms.
  • Lead strategic thinking around new models for private-market liquidity, including future digital or technology-enabled pathways.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Partner closely with Investing, Legal/Compliance, Finance, and Investor Relations to ensure aligned execution and communication.
  • Ensure dashboards, memos, and updates both internal and external; are clear, proactive, and consistent with leadership expectations.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and scale the Portfolio Liquidity & Monitoring team.
  • Build a culture of collaboration, precision, and operational discipline.
  • Strengthen cross-functional relationships to improve execution speed and organizational alignment.
Who You Are
  • 10+ years in private markets, venture, secondaries, or adjacent liquidity-focused roles.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or similar advanced credential preferred.
  • Track record overseeing or executing secondary or structured transactions.
  • Strong understanding of late-stage private-company dynamics and valuation frameworks.
  • Experience building monitoring, valuation, or governance systems.
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills across internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experienced in private-market dynamics, secondaries, or structured solutions.
  • Skilled at making decisions with imperfect data and navigating fast-moving environments.
  • Curious about evolving liquidity technologies without requiring deep technical expertise.
  • Impactful communicator who can distill complex situations into crisp, leadership-ready insights.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset; comfortable building new capabilities rather than inheriting established playbooks.
  • A strategic operator who combines investor judgment with creativity around.

Compensation includes a base salary between $180,000 - $210,000 plus equity and corporate bonus.

Our benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, 401k match, HSA, FSA, Life Insurance, Pet Insurance, Flexible PTO, and Parental Leave as well as career development.
