About this role

Introduction

Due to the significant expansion of BlackRock’s digital asset enterprise, the firm is seeking a permanent hire to join its U.S. Product Tax Group. The broader U.S. Product Tax Group is responsible for providing internal tax advice and consultation on all tax matters related to BlackRock’s U.S. fund range, including exchange traded funds, retail mutual funds, business development companies, institutional collective investment funds and separately managed accounts.

 

This in-house role is ideal for an attorney and 5+ years of experience in tax law, preferably within asset management, digital assets, or financial products. This is an advisory role, with strong technical and business exposure to tax issues related to a wide range of financial products and investments, with a specific focus on digital assets The position offers high exposure to complex tax issues, product development, and cross-functional collaboration.

 

About the Role

The Vice President – Product Tax will provide hands-on tax support and strategic advice across a range of investment products and fund structures, with a specific focus on products that provide investors exposure to digital assets. The role involves advising on tax-efficient offerings, monitoring legislative developments, structuring investments, and supporting business teams with technical tax input.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Tax Advisory & Structuring

  • Advise on tax matters for new product launches, fund structuring, and ongoing oversight of fund complexes and vehicles that invest in digital assets.

  • Structure investments and holding vehicles, considering U.S. and non-U.S. tax matters

  • Review and negotiate legal documentation (prospectuses, LPAs, PPMs, side letters, purchase agreements, credit agreements) with legal and tax advisors.

 

Business Support

  • Provide technical tax support to product development, client relationship, sales, and marketing teams.

  • Assist with client communications and respond to investor tax queries.

  • Monitor and interpret key tax legislative and regulatory developments affecting funds and investors.

  • Engage with public policy and industry groups on tax issues.

 

Operational Excellence

  • Support the development of robust tax-related processes and procedures.

  • Oversee U.S. tax reporting compliance, including coordination with external advisors.

  • Build efficiencies in tax policies and operational processes.

 

Collaboration

  • Work closely with global and cross-functional teams, including private markets, product tax, and external advisors.

  • Liaise with internal business leaders and industry groups.

 

Required Skills & Experience

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree; LLM or equivalent a plus.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience practicing US tax law in asset management, digital assets or financial products.

  • Familiarity with tax issues related to retail/high net worth investors, institutions, and a broad range of financial products.

  • Experience at a law firm or a Big 4 accountancy firm.

  • Experience reviewing and negotiating tax provisions in legal and transactional documents.

  • Strong communication skills, able to explain complex tax issues to diverse audiences.

  • Effective interpersonal skills for working within large, cross-border teams.

  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced, high-exposure environment

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with both U.S. and non-U.S. tax perspectives.

  • Knowledge of U.S. tax aspects of regulated investment companies.

  • Experience with private equity and private credit investments and fund structures.

For New York, NY Only the salary range for this position is USD$150,000.00 - USD$235,000.00 . Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including healthcare, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
