At Major League Baseball, the Vice President of Technology Services plays a pivotal role in setting the strategic direction and ensuring the operational excellence of our Technology function. This executive position requires a forward-thinking leader who will not only oversee the deployment and management of technology solutions across MLB and its Clubs but also drive innovative strategies that enhance our technological capabilities and services.
A key responsibility of this role will be driving the use of AI across the workforce. This includes selecting appropriate tools, increasing organizational fluency, and ensuring the successful realization of both practical and strategic benefits of AI across MLB. The ideal candidate will bring a sharp understanding of emerging AI capabilities and a demonstrated ability to drive transformational change through technology.
This role also directly oversees MLB’s Corporate Infrastructure, Service Desk, Event Technology, and Media Management teams, ensuring reliable, scalable, and secure operations across the League. In addition, the VP will lead efforts to advance technology adoption and consistency in MLB’s remote offices and international operations, extending enterprise standards and support models globally.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Shape and articulate a clear vision for the Technology Services division, ensuring alignment with MLB’s overall strategic goals
  • Lead enterprise-wide technology initiatives and transformation efforts, including the adoption of AI technologies that improve efficiency, decision-making, and fan engagement
  • Foster a culture of innovation, experimentation, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) across all service domains to drive measurable improvement in reliability, responsiveness, and user satisfaction

Operational Oversight

  • Spearhead the seamless operation of all technology services, including software, hardware, and integrated systems
  • Lead initiatives to standardize and scale MLB technology services across domestic and international remote offices
  • Ensure robust business continuity plans are in place to maintain operations and minimize disruptions during emergencies
  • Partner with the League’s Information Security function to ensure infrastructure and platforms are designed and operated in alignment with cybersecurity standards and risk management practices

AI Strategy & Execution

  • Champion the identification, evaluation, and implementation of AI use cases that enhance business outcomes
  • Partner with business units to build AI literacy, foster adoption, and scale impactful use of AI tools across the workforce
  • Serve as a strategic thought leader in the evolving AI landscape, advising senior leadership on risks, opportunities, and ethical implications

Budget and Resource Management

  • Develop and manage substantial budgets, optimizing resource allocation across projects and operations
  • Work closely with the Finance department to forecast financial needs and track expenditures

Technology Advancement

  • Evaluate and integrate advanced technology solutions that enhance operational effectiveness and user satisfaction
  • Champion the adoption of Software as a Service (SaaS) platforms, outsourcing strategies, and AI-enhanced tools to streamline operations and reduce costs

Partnership and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Cultivate strong relationships with MLB clubs, major event organizers, and other ownership entities, offering strategic technology services as a shared resource
  • Engage with technology vendors and partners to explore new business opportunities and innovations
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders, ensuring that Technology Services functions are aligned with evolving business needs and delivering a high standard of service

Team Development and Leadership

  • Lead and expand a diverse team of technology professionals and external partners across multiple domains
  • Foster an environment of professional growth, accountability, and collaborative success, including growing internal AI expertise

Policy and Procedure Development

  • Establish comprehensive policies and procedures that support the adoption of new technologies, including AI, and ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with other departments to proactively address their technology needs, ensuring high-quality support and alignment with their objectives
  • Act as a bridge between technology and business strategy, translating needs into effective digital solutions

Qualification & Skills

  • Experience: 10+ years in technology leadership within a dynamic corporate environment, with demonstrated experience in strategic planning and execution
  • Experience leading automation/AI initiatives is strongly preferred
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required; advanced degree or relevant certifications highly preferred
  • Deep understanding of database management, networking, systems architecture, cloud solutions (GCP/Azure), and modern workplace technologies (Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, etc.)
  • Familiarity with AI platforms, machine learning frameworks, and intelligent automation tools
  • Proven ability to lead large-scale technology initiatives and teams, with excellent project management, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • A track record of developing KPI-driven organizations that use data to improve operational effectiveness, service quality, and customer satisfaction
  • Exceptional communication abilities, adept at engaging with executive-level stakeholders and external partners
  • Strong commitment to ethical conduct and compliance in all business dealings.
  • Willingness to travel and availability for non-traditional hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays

Salary Range: $275,000 - $325,000 (Base Salary) + Bonus

As a candidate for this position, your salary and related elements of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, skills and any other factors Major League Baseball (MLB) considers relevant to the hiring decision.
