Why this role matters

At CB Insights, we deliver predictive intelligence on private companies.

Corporate strategy, corporate VC, and business development leaders at the world’s most innovative companies trust us to see their next move first.

In public markets, leaders have Bloomberg. In private markets — where the future is built — they’re flying blind.

Our platform changes that. It surfaces hidden signals about critical market shifts, uses AI agents to build board-ready outputs, and delivers it all into the apps our customers use every day.

The foundation of this system is our data. Non-public and hard-to-get data about private companies, their investors, customers, leaders, and competitors, validated and organized into markets, with proven algorithms that predict future events.

We’re looking for a world-class leader to scale it.

Your impact

As Vice President, Data Product & Operations, you’ll own the strategy, roadmap, and execution for our portfolio of datasets and algorithms. You will lead the teams responsible for identifying new datasets, growing current ones, and building predictive models.

You will:

  • Set and execute for what data we collect, how we collect it, and what predictions we build on top.
  • Lead a global team of 100+ across data product management, data stewardship, survey research, and data extraction.
  • Drive rigorous operational excellence to improve coverage, quality, and freshness across data about millions of companies, markets, deals, people and more.
  • Develop creative and scalable strategies for data acquisition across direct contribution, AI-driven extraction, and partnerships.
  • Partner with Data Science and Engineering to build models that power customer-facing use cases such as predicting future valuations or chances to IPO.
  • Champion the use of AI to achieve 10x productivity improvements and unlock new capabilities previously out of reach.
  • Partner with Product Marketing to shape the go-to-market strategy for our data, framing its positioning, pricing, packaging, and differentiation.
  • Serve as the executive voice of our foundational data with colleagues, customers, and partners.

What you bring

  • Private markets fluency: You have firsthand experience sourcing investments, conducting due diligence, and analyzing markets. You know the data that drives these workflows.
  • Operational scale: You’ve built and scaled global teams in financial data platforms or expert networks, with measurable success in driving quality, speed, and coverage.
  • Track record of new product innovation: You’ve conceived and launched new datasets or data science products that delivered meaningful revenue growth.
  • Customer obsession: You reveal and solve customer problems with empathy and curiosity. You uncover pain and willingness to pay with sharp discovery methods.
  • Technical acumen: You are a credible partner to engineering and data science. You understand how models are built, trained, validated, and shipped.
  • Builder’s bias: You move fast, work iteratively, and ship before things are perfect. You thrive in ambiguity and bring others with you.
  • Clear communication: You create energy and context for the people around you. You’re a compelling storyteller.
  • Hands-on leadership: You sweat the details. You dive into the data. You debug problems side-by-side with your team. You go and see with your own eyes.

Please note this is a US-based role.

In addition to base salary listed below, this role is also eligible for a bonus opportunity.

Compensation
$250,000$275,000 USD

What we're all about

CB Insights is the leader in predictive intelligence on private companies—turning exclusive data on millions of firms into early, trusted signals on future performance and direction. The company pioneered predictive intelligence with its Mosaic Score—the first system to reliably forecast the outlook for a private company—and has since built it into a comprehensive platform of AI and data capabilities. Today, leading strategy, investment, and business development teams rely on CB Insights to identify the right companies, markets, and opportunities before their competitors do.

CB Insights Leadership Principles

At CB Insights, everyone is expected to be a leader. These leadership principles are like an operating system for our culture. Use the principles as a practical guide to making decisions.
We are what we repeatedly do. By living the principles outlined below, we will build an outstanding company and do insanely great work.

  1. Solve customer problems. It’s our highest calling. Designing a product? Start from the customer problem it solves. Updating our sales process? Flip it around, and simplify the customer buying process.
  2. Think BIG! Start small. Great changes start with a first step. Find it. Take it. Build a system around what works. This is the secret to bringing a vision to life.
  3. Go and see with your own eyes. Meet the customer, use the product, talk to the field. Great systems aren’t built from afar.
  4. Priorities: Choose one. Leaders give the gift of clarity. They find the most important thing and do it. Max power. Top speed.
  5. Danger zones:
    • Bureaucracy. May the best ideas and execution win.
    • Complexity. Leaders use frameworks and systems to simplify.
    • No commitment. Leaders don’t compromise just to get along. Debate. Disagree. But once a decision is made, commit.
    • Leaving what’s important unsaid or undone. No “circling back.”
  6. Data informs. Insight transforms.  Pull the thread. Ask why. Leaders are curious. They use what they learn to create clarity.
  7. Insist on excellence. Leaders set high standards and overcome obstacles. They do the kind of work they’re excited to share with the world.
  8. Live off the land. Leaders creatively use resources already available to them – especially AI – to execute and automate their work.
  9. Good judgment. Leaders have it. Where it comes from: insight, listening, first-hand experience. How to apply it: carefully on big, hard to reverse decisions. Swiftly on limited, easy to reverse ones.
  10. Help others. Leaders know we’re building this together.
