Lead finance and accounting functions including strategic finance, FP&A, accounting/controllership, audit, tax, treasury, fundraising support, and investor relations. Partner with founders, board, and cross-functional leaders on planning, forecasting, pricing, M&A readiness, and scaling the finance team while maintaining strong controls and GAAP compliance.

Swing Education is looking for a VP Finance to lead the financial strategy of a high-growth K-12 marketplace at a pivotal moment. You'll report directly to the CEO, sit on the executive team, and own the full finance function — from FP&A and forecasting to investor relations and capital strategy. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll build the financial infrastructure to support a business on a path to profitability, working closely with a world-class investor group and board. If you want maximum scope, real strategic influence, and a mission that matters, keep reading.

Keys to Success in This Role:

  • One-person band mentality: Swing is a ~50-person company. One day you're deep in the financial model, stress-testing assumptions; the next you're leading a strategic conversation with the exec team and board. You know what a scaled-up company should look like, but you're still willing and able to roll up your sleeves to get things done.
  • FP&A mastery: Forecasting, planning, and financial analytics are second nature to you. You specialize in building models and processes that consistently deliver accurate financials, reliable forecasts, and actionable insights for decision-making.
  • Strategic communication: You tailor your message to the audience — board decks, investor updates, bank reporting, and company-wide communications all come naturally. You can translate complex financial information into clear narratives.
  • Accounting fluency: You don't need to be a CPA, but you're comfortable overseeing and signing off on the monthly close process, managing GL entries and accruals, and driving annual audits to completion.
  • Investor and board experience: You've worked hands-on with venture and PE investors. You know how to manage a board relationship and navigate the full range of governance, reporting, and strategic issues that come with an institutional investor base.
  • Debt and banking relationships: You can manage venture debt facilities, bank reporting, covenant compliance, and the ongoing information exchange that lenders require.
  • M&A experience is a plus: If you've been through acquisitions — buy-side or sell-side — that could be a significant advantage as we explore inorganic growth opportunities.

Why You're Excited About This Job

  • Impact: This is a critical leadership role and a key seat on the exec team. You'll have direct influence on the company's most important strategic and financial decisions — not just report on them.
  • Mission: Swing is a company the world wants to see win. We put great substitute teachers in classrooms with a level of efficiency and effectiveness that is unique in the industry. Every filled absence day means students keep learning.
  • Exposure: You'll work directly with our board and investor group, which includes Apax Partners, Reach Capital, Owl Ventures, and GV (Google Ventures). Success in this role opens doors — the relationships, pattern recognition, and operating experience you'll build here will compound for the rest of your career.
