Authentic helps insurance brokers create better insurance products for their clients. We provide the technology platform and behind-the-scenes support that lets brokers build custom insurance solutions for specific industries or customer groups. Think of us as the operating system that powers these specialized insurance offerings. For brokers, this means they can offer unique products their competitors don't have, earn more money, and spend less time on paperwork and administrative tasks. We handle the complex (technology, compliance, and partnerships with highly-rated insurance carriers), so they can focus on serving their customers and growing their business.

About Authentic

We are a fast-growing company, backed by leading investors, including FirstMark Capital, Zigg Capital, Slow Ventures, Clocktower, Commerce Ventures, and Altai. We have grown over 10x in the last year and have exceeded $15mm in ARR and are building the financial, operational, and capital markets infrastructure to support the next stage of scale.

We have partnered with leading carriers including Starr Companies, QBE, Ascot Group, and Everspan Group. We also work closely with top retail brokers such as Hub International, Alliant Insurance Services, Aon, Marsh, and others as we continue expanding the infrastructure and partnerships behind our programs.

The role

We are hiring a VP of Finance / Head of Finance to be Authentic’s senior-most finance leader and a close partner to the CEO. This is an in-person role, 5x a week, in our NYC office.

You will own the finance function end to end, including FP&A, accounting, treasury, capital markets, audit, tax, board reporting, and finance partnership with go-to-market, operations, insurance, legal, and compliance teams.

This is a high-leverage role for someone who wants to build the finance function at a complex, high-growth insurance technology company. The right person will be equally comfortable with board-level financial strategy, detailed operating models, monthly close, treasury, reinsurance economics, and hands-on process building.

What you’ll do
  • Own the operating model, annual budget, rolling forecasts, scenario planning, and capital allocation analysis
  • Prepare finance materials for board meetings, investor updates, and leadership team discussions
  • Build reporting across GWP, revenue, renewals, commissions, loss ratios, collateral, cash, and department-level spend
  • Own monthly close, financial reporting, revenue recognition, and management reporting
  • Build scalable controls around commissions, AR, AP, expenses, vendor management, and reconciliation
  • Own cash management, bank relationships, debt facility reporting, and liquidity forecasting
  • Support future debt and equity financings alongside the CEO
  • Partner with the CEO and external advisors on carrier, reinsurance, captive, and collateral economics
  • Manage audit, tax, regulatory finance workstreams, and key external partners across accounting, legal, tax, audit, banking, and compliance
  • Hire and develop a lean, high-performing finance team as the business scales
What we’re looking for
  • 6–10+ years of progressive finance experience, including time as a senior finance leader or #2 finance leader at a high-growth company
  • Insurance, insurtech, MGA, program business, carrier, or reinsurance experience strongly preferred
  • Experience building or scaling a finance function at a venture-backed company
  • Strong FP&A and accounting foundation; able to move between strategic finance and close-level operating detail
  • Experience with debt facilities, treasury, cash forecasting, and investor / board reporting
  • Comfort with reinsurance economics, collateral, ceding commissions, quota share structures, or other insurance balance sheet mechanics
  • Demonstrated ability to manage external partners across accounting, tax, audit, legal, banking, and compliance
  • High judgment, low ego, strong communication skills, and comfort operating in ambiguity
  • Builder mindset: willing to roll up sleeves, create structure, and improve processes without slowing the company down
Nice to have
  • CPA, private equity, or investment banking background
  • Experience with M&A, reinsurance, captive structures, or other insurance capital structure transactions
  • Experience working directly with a founder / CEO and board

Compensation includes a $200,000–$250,000 base salary and meaningful equity, offering the opportunity to participate directly in Authentic’s continued growth.

Our (FTE) benefits

  • Competitive salary, equity, and role trajectory
  • Comprehensive health benefits for you and your family
  • 401(k) plan with company match
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Paid parental leave
