About Primary

Primary is a seed-stage venture capital firm dedicated to delivering exceptional support to the founders of transformational businesses. By pairing meaningful investment resources with the largest portfolio impact team of any seed investor, our portfolio companies have reached an industry-best seed-to-A graduation rate.

About the Role

Primary is looking for a VP of Marketing, Programming & Networks to architect how our firm attracts, engages, and compounds relationships with the most important people in tech - founders, operators, and executives.

Your mandate: turn programming into a product. You’ll create high-quality, repeatable experiences that pull A-players into our orbit and keep them engaged through thoughtful, high-impact touchpoints. You’ll build the systems, programming, and engagement engines that help investors deepen relationships and convert our network into a consistent sourcing and diligence advantage.

What You’ll Do
  • Operationalize investor networks: Create systems, playbooks, and cadences that activate hundreds of relationships across segments like healthcare, fintech, infrastructure, and AI - turning connections into compounding networks that create deal flow, diligence, and referrals.

  • Design and scale our programming strategy: Build segment-specific experiences across programming, content, and community events (e.g. councils, dinners, masterclasses, newsletters) that reliably attract and engage high quality target personas across each investment pod.

  • Own brand & content: Lead Primary’s brand narrative, digital presence, and content franchises (podcasts, editorial, events) that position us as a trusted voice in the ecosystem.

  • Lead tentpole events: Own the strategy and execution of our annual 2,000-person NYC Summit and other signature programs that serve as brand-defining moments and relationship accelerators for Primary.

  • Build the network operating system: Develop the processes infrastructure to organize and scale engagement that turns our network into a measurable, compounding asset - CRM hygiene, coverage mapping, engagement tracking and data capture

  • Drive measurable outcomes: Establish KPIs, reporting, and review cycles that inform iteration and demonstrate how programming drives access, engagement quality, and deal velocity. Where relevant, you’ll also build a sustainable sponsorship engine.

  • Lead a lean, doer-heavy team: Manage a team of 2 and partner closely with investors and internal teams to deliver high-quality, on-brand execution that compounds over time.

About You

You are a relationship-first operator and student of the startup game, perceived as a peer by the people we want to know. You hold your own with founders, operators, engineers, enterprise buyers, and VCs, and translate their needs into programs that matter. You are not solely "an events person" or "a marketer." You're an operator who understands how networks compound, how VCs source deals, and how to build systems that scale. You also likely have:

  • 8–12+ years experience building networks, programs, or communities that drive business outcomes - ideally in venture, startups, media, or GTM leadership. More important than pedigree, you have evidence of your ability to make networks compound.

  • Exceptional taste. You know what great looks like and have a strong sense of what resonates with sophisticated audiences, from the tone of a newsletter to the guest list of a dinner. You have experience curating elevated experiences and communities.

  • A desire to build. You are a doer who thrives with autonomy, connects dots across teams, and delivers with excellence. You also have a track-record of delivering content-rich, segmented programs that deliver real results.

  • A deep relationship orientation. You are credible with senior operators and investors, and fluent in the language of startups.

  • A strong systems mindset. You are skilled in thinking in terms of audience segmentation, CRM discipline, coverage design, and program measurement.

  • Experience turning creative ideas into operationalized, repeatable wins that drive measurable firm outcomes.

  • You must be available to work onsite in our NYC office 3+ days a week
