The VP of Technology Commercial Management will oversee technology procurement, vendor negotiations, and financial governance to effectively manage technology spending and ensure alignment with IT and financial strategies.

Who We Are:

We are a newly independent wealth management firm, with approximately $500 million in revenue, recently carved out from a larger parent company and acquired by a leading private equity sponsor. With a strong foundation of client relationships, acquisitions, and growth potential, we are in the process of standing up new systems, processes, and controls to support our next phase of expansion. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the tax infrastructure of a high-growth platform from the ground up.

Summary:

We are seeking a hands-on, commercially astute technology procurement leader to drive structure, rigor, and speed across our technology contract landscape. The VP of Technology Commercial Management will own the full commercial lifecycle for all technology spending, including sourcing, vendor negotiations, contracting, renewals, total cost of ownership (TCO) modeling, and financial governance.

This role acts as the commercial engine of the carve-out, ensuring the organization establishes the right vendor partnerships at the right cost, on the right timeline, with the appropriate commercial and contractual protections. The VP will work closely with IT tower leaders, Finance, Corporate Procurement, and Legal to ensure alignment and execution across all commercial activities.

The position reports directly to IT senior leadership within the CTO Office, with a dotted-line relationship to Finance and Corporate Procurement to support budget alignment, fiscal controls, and spend management.

The ideal candidate is decisive, highly organized, and execution-focused — someone who can navigate ambiguity, cut through complexity, and make timely commercial decisions with confidence.

Key Responsibilities:

Technology Sourcing & Contracting

  • Lead end-to-end sourcing for all technology services (SaaS, cloud, cybersecurity, data, applications, managed services, telecom).
  • Stand up and transition hundreds of contracts during the carve-out, ensuring sequencing aligns with TSA exit timelines.
  • Lead vendor evaluations, scorecards, RFPs/RFIs, and negotiation strategies.
  • Negotiate and oversee commercial terms, pricing models, renewals, SLAs, SLOs, DPAs, and liability protections.
  • Partner with IT tower leaders to align contract terms with technical architecture, operating models, and future-state roadmaps.

Commercial Planning & Financial Governance

  • Develop detailed total cost of ownership (TCO) models and consumption forecasts.
  • Analyze cost drivers and identify opportunities to consolidate vendors, reduce spend, and eliminate redundant tools.
  • Collaborate with Finance to align technology purchases with budgets, capitalization, approvals, and long-term planning.
  • Establish a structured cadence for renewal management, evergreen tracking, and forward-cost visibility.

Carve-Out, Separation, and TSA Exit

  • Lead the commercial transition from legacy parent-company contracts to newly negotiated stand-alone agreements.
  • Ensure contract timing, licensing, and services are aligned with IT readiness milestones and operational continuity.
  • Coordinate with Legal on contract migration, data protection requirements, and compliance standards (SOC2, ISO27001).
  • Vendor Commercial Oversight (commercial ownership, not operational vendor management)
  • Maintain commercial scorecards and ensure vendors remain aligned to negotiated pricing, SLAs, and contract commitments.
  • Collaborate with IT tower leaders who own day-to-day vendor performance and operational escalations.
  • Evaluate long-term vendor strategy, including consolidation, scalability, and PE value-creation opportunities.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Serve as the connective tissue between IT, Finance, Procurement, Legal, and external partners.
  • Present commercial recommendations, ROI analysis, and cost optimization strategies to senior leadership.
  • Operate autonomously in a fast-paced, startup-like carve-out environment with high expectations and tight timelines.
  • Drive clarity, structure, and documentation in an environment with evolving processes and high volumes of concurrent work.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in technology procurement, sourcing, commercial management, or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of SaaS pricing, cloud consumption models, cybersecurity tooling, and enterprise software economics.
  • Demonstrated success negotiating complex contracts with major technology vendors (Microsoft, AWS, SaaS platforms, MSPs).
  • Experience in a private equity, carve-out, or high-growth environment preferred.
  • Exceptional ability to interpret complex contract language, business requirements, and technical specifications.
  • Skilled in financial modeling, cost forecasting, and multi-year spend planning.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; able to synthesize details into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • High accountability, urgency, and a bias for action; comfortable making decisions with incomplete information.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field; MBA is a plus.

What Makes This Role Unique:

This role is not traditional procurement. It is a strategic commercial leadership position at the center of one of the largest IT transformations in wealth management.

You will:

  • Build the commercial backbone of a new standalone technology ecosystem
  • Influence architecture, budgets, vendor strategy, and future margin performance
  • Wear multiple hats in a lean, high-performance environment
  • Work directly with IT leadership and tower leads
  • Have visibility with the CFO and private equity stakeholders
  • Play a decisive role in the success of the carve-out

If you want to shape an entire company’s technology commercial model from the ground up - this is the opportunity.

What We Offer:

We're proud to offer a competitive salary, PTO & paid holidays, 401(k) with match, exclusive discount programs, health & wellness programs, and more. Our PeopleFirst culture focuses on building and nurturing lifelong relationships with our employees because, at the end of the day, we exist to be there for others.
