Calling the shots: 5 NYC tech companies hiring leaders right now

June 13, 2017

Finding tech talent can be tough, and the challenge grows exponentially when you’re looking for someone to not just join the team, but to take the wheel and lead. A startup’s lean workforce means there’s only room for the cream of the crop in every department — including those at the top.

Luckily, New York City is a hub for leaders in technology. Here are five companies currently searching for executives like you.

Vice President of Marketing at Knewton

What they do: Knewton is a service that offers affordable, customized course solutions in higher education. They provide fully integrated adaptive lessons that provide each student with a personal learning experience.

What you’ll do: In this role, you’ll lead the scaling effort for a company that’s changing the face of the education industry. You’ll create the strategic go-to-market plans, own communication artifacts, manage media partnerships and more.

Who they’re looking for: This role requires an excellent communicator with about 15 years experience in marketing. You’ll be fluent in all things Salesforce, Google Analytics, SEO and other digital marketing tools.

Head of Customer Success, Product Labs at BuzzFeed

What they do: BuzzFeed is the leading independent digital media and tech company delivering news and entertainment content to a global audience. They have offices in 18 cities around the world and more than 1,300 employees.

What you’ll do: You’ll be responsible for the design and build of cross-channel customer success experiences for all Product Lab Brands. As the head of customer success, you’ll manage a third party team of customer success associates and play a role in driving revenue with cross-selling and upselling.

Who they’re looking for: You’ll have 10 years of experience in a multichannel environment that’s high volume and fast growth. You’re metrics-driven and you know what Zendesk is (or you have experience with something similar).

Head of Marketing at SeedInvest

What they do: SeedInvest is an equity crowdfunding platform that connects investors with startups. They played a crucial role in allowing entrepreneurs to raise capital over the internet.

What you’ll do: You’ll lead all growth efforts, including advertising, SEO and social media, and build relationships with industry journalists. As the head of marketing, you’ll also manage public relations and content creation.

Who they’re looking for: This role requires experience growing a startup as a CMO or head of marketing. You should have an impressive track record of generating user and business growth.

Director of Engineering at CB Insights

What they do: CB Insights is a tech market intelligence platform that analyzes millions of data points to predict technology trends. It helps companies anticipate their next market, acquisition, investment, customer or their competitor's next move.

What you’ll do: As the director of engineering, you’ll develop and scale CB Insights’ core data pipelines and the teams that manage them. You’ll improve existing data architecture and provide technical guidance to engineers.

Who they’re looking for: You’ll have a strong understanding of architectural patterns relating to data architecture, data integration, modeling and data warehousing. The ideal candidate has more than five years of experience as an engineering manager, preferably in an Agile environment with CI/CD.

Content Marketing Manager at mParticle

What they do: mParticle provides a solution that allows companies to coordinate their entire growth stack via a single, secure API. It unifies data, improves user experiences and accelerates growth.

What you’ll do: This role is responsible for managing content creation and distribution. You’ll write blog posts and work with web designers and developer teams to optimize all aspects of the corporate blog.

Who they’re looking for: The ideal candidate will have three years of experience as a digital marketer or writer in a data-driven organization. You’ll be a strategic thinker and gifted storyteller comfortable working across owned and earned digital media channels.
