Attentive raised $40 million to send promotions to your phone rather than your email. The company has already partnered with over 400 retailers including Urban Outfitters and Coach to target interested customers. The latest funds will allow Attentive to hire across all departments, especially in engineering and sales roles. [Built In NYC]

Inc. Magazine named the 5000 fastest growing companies, and it’s no surprise that NYC made a name for itself on the list. The list ranks private companies based on revenue growth since 2015. YieldStreet, FanChest and Fund That Flip are just three of the NYC tech companies that scored a place on the prestigious list. [Built In NYC]

PathSpot scored $2 million to ensure restaurant employees wash hands. The startup’s device, designed to be installed in bathrooms, uses light-based technology to scan the user’s hands and provide feedback on whether they’re sufficiently clean to handle food. The device also collects data to give managers feedback on how their employees are doing.
