Being a person of color in tech isn’t always easy. “As an African American and a father, breaking into the world of coding wasn’t a linear experience,” said iOS Software Engineer Ayoola Abudu. “But Hinge provides many opportunities to learn and network with a focus on compassionate personal growth.” Since joining the company, Abudu has admired how Hinge focuses on values, all while working with the DEI department to maintain a diverse and inclusive workplace. “Hinge has taken that approach in its mobile application by designing features for groups such as the LGBTQ+ community to feel safe and included in the process of finding love,” Abudu said. “I call that progress.”

Charlie Christensen is surrounded by quality tech, and it’s a good thing — he needs it all to accomplish a host of exciting and challenging tasks. “We are setting up a pipeline where product can quickly iterate translated designs, and translations can make their way into the apps without engineers having to think about it,” Christensen said. “This involves everything from using a content management platform that will create PRs to merge into the codebase, all the way down to using Jetpack Compose to create quick view previews using multiple locales.”
We host yearly hackathons that have massive participation, and on the Android team we are encouraged to experiment and play with the latest and greatest tech.
