The General Counsel will provide legal and strategic guidance to LSNYC leadership, focusing on labor and employment matters, union grievances, collective bargaining, litigation, risk management, contracts, leases, governance, compliance, and professional responsibility. The role supervises the Compliance department, develops organizational policies, works with outside counsel, and advises on nonprofit regulatory obligations. Candidates must have a JD, New York bar admission or eligibility, at least 10 years of legal experience, and substantial management experience in a unionized nonprofit environment.

Represent low-income New York City tenants in housing court, administrative hearings, and state and federal litigation. Responsibilities include case intake, full legal representation, legal advice, community clinics, know-your-rights workshops, advocacy trainings, and identifying issues for impact litigation. Attorneys will develop expertise in housing law, public benefits, and housing subsidies while advancing tenant rights and preventing evictions.
