Investigates, evaluates, and negotiates complex, high-severity specialty insurance claims involving coverage, liability, damages, litigation, and reserves. Manages claim strategies, attorneys, vendors, insureds, agents, and legal counsel through resolution. Provides subject-matter expertise, mentors team members, maintains knowledge of insurance law and regulations, and communicates effectively with customers and senior leaders.

Leads Nationwide’s Commercial Surety business, setting underwriting strategy, risk appetite, governance, pricing, product direction, and distribution objectives. Oversees portfolio profitability, growth, capacity, reinsurance relationships, regulatory compliance, and business transformation. Manages geographically dispersed underwriting leaders, develops talent and succession plans, maintains broker and agency relationships, and provides executive-level financial and strategic leadership. The role is fully remote within the lower 48 states and requires frequent travel.

Drives underwriting innovation by designing, testing, and implementing new tools, technologies, strategies, and processes. Coordinates projects, manages deadlines and risks, supports user acceptance testing, and collaborates with IT, underwriting, data, product, operations, reinsurance, and vendors. Uses data analytics and machine learning to improve risk assessment, efficiency, and customer experience while ensuring regulatory compliance. Provides training and helps translate innovation concepts into adopted underwriting capabilities.
