PEN America

PEN America (formerly PEN American Center) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization standing at the intersection of literature and human rights to protect free expression in the United States and worldwide. Founded in 1922, it is the largest of more than 100 centers in the PEN International network. Its membership of over 7,000 writers unites novelists, journalists, poets, editors, and translators to champion the freedom to write, defend persecuted writers, oppose censorship, and celebrate creative expression through advocacy, research, awards, and literary programs.
